I had that same AU-717 back in the early 70's, It was a perfectly designed amp. It was very articulate and detailed but a little clinical.
The whole Telewatt Programme from 1957 to 1963. All Pioneer top of the line receivers from 1968 to 1976 Plus a Tandberg TR1055, my special love. Yes, everything working. Not to mention some Preamps and power amps like Quad, Martin Electronics or Pio C90. Uhh, my wife kills me if I bring in another one What she doesn’t know - in my mothers‘ basement on another continent is a Tandberg Huldra (the Bentley of Receivers) waiting for restoration. I would like to have that here
Oh man, you have a Huldra?? I love it. Time that COVID ends and I can fly over ... How does the Huldra sound compared to the 2075/II?
Sorry, misunderstanding- a friend has a TR2040, they are just so musical and so much fun The TR2075 makes me a bit envious, but my wife would kill me, as I said
Couldn't resist finally won the auction Sansui AU-888 in nearly mind including original schematic Excellent sounding Amp Cheers and stay safe
Europe always got different Japanese models back in the day. I am surprised you actually found this ...
the European market for this extraordinary and rare japanese machines is very tight in nowertimes Very hard or nearly impossible to find certain gear from early sansui or whatever other japanese Audio brand Well nearly all my stuff bought in Japan That's the place to buy as dont care about the 100V issue im here in Europe so can use a strong Stepdown Transformer Soundwise cant hear the difference between 100V and 220-240V Guess some ppl can hear a difference Cheers and stay safe
I have long heard the Japanese home-market usually had the best gears that were not exported back in the day ...
Exactly that was the traditional way in harmony with japanese culture so we have now another example of asian traditional way of trading as the Chinese transfer legal or illegal Western knowledge and products since aprox 45 years and copy them and tune them up to end up with better then the master products so they can sell it to the rest of the world Expect more things to come I'll keep a sharp eye on this issue
None of my kit is in the same class as most mentioned. I'm a vintage guy. With a simple kit. JBL SDP3 dsp as a pre and 2 Audiosource Model 3 amps passively vertically biamped. The pre came from Andrew Jones' home room supposedly. (uh huh). Either way it gets the job done well. I'd say 22 years old. My amps are 150wpc and have quite a bit of @$$-end in the bass department. Both are about 20 years old give or take. My speakers are kids at 10 or so. I have JBL L890s and L8400 sub. My music is quite musical, lol.
I have a Sansui 500A tube receiver that's waiting to be sent out for servicing. Between my Six, Eight, and 881 I have a serious Sansui bug.
I'm just about to set up a Marantz 7C and a pair of McIntosh MC-75's, all from the early 60's, for a friend. I'm donating a pair of Altec Valencia's to the cause.
catch of the day Sansui AU-777D seems 51 years untouched all-inclusive awesome how the Japanese care about Audio gear guess the Amp was stored in Uncle Matsumoto's hidden humidity free Warehouse no corrosion at all even not the tiny pinscrews
So much good stuff in this thread. I have a particular affinity with the Luxman, Sansui and Yamaha stuff . Accuphase stuff lovely too
So a retailer bought this unit some 50 years ago but never sold or opened it and who knows how the unit came to be owned by the seller. That is a long and winding story ...
