It’s not vintage, but I gave my old Samsun 9090db to my cousin as a garage radio. And I am still using once in a while my Onkyo tx-890 for a basement party system. Sold the 5x-860 on eBay long time ago. The old tax-890 still sounds good,
I recently acquired the Pioneer SA 500..a 40 watt solid state amp...completely refurbished. It is identical to the first new stereo component purchased in 1971. The previous amp i owned was used 10 watt Philips amp supporting a used Garrard TT with new Dual/Norelco speakers...I am delighted to have the Pioneer back in my life again..a great sounding little amp..brings back a lot of memories, both musical and otherwise.
I just got my black Advent 300 back from my tech. Just needed a check-up and it's ready to go and I'm parting with it. It's a clean one but I'm swamped with stereo pieces right now, stuff has to go.
No doubt. You will never find anything like that in an econobox made in you know where at a reasonable price ...
When I first started my hifi obsession in the early 70's, I used drool over hifi catalogues a dream about owning some of the top of the range items. Well I'm still dreaming but if I had the money back then it would have been one of the big Pioneer's, the SX 1280? I think. I just loved all that aluminium and those meters!
nah, this is actually what Pio's mid-80's receiver models were like; Night and Day difference; SX-V500; (i believe) their ToTL 1985 offering;
The 1250 is a little heavier I think and I’ve read that 1250 sounds better. I have the 1250 and never heard the 1280. Man it is the first thing I glance at when I walk in the door... then “ honey I’m home” They really are beautiful amps.
Like I needed another receiver. I just grabbed a minty looking Sanyo JCX 2300KR. Haven't even tested it yet, but couldnt resist for the price. Made in the late seventies I'm guessing it will sound like similar low to medium power receivers of the day.

Bad news from Ebay town: Onkyo TX-2500 MK II arrived DOA. Must have been damaged in transit. Got a refund and found a nice TX-5000 online from a man who repairs and refurbishes vintage stereo equipment. He had a lot of nice things to say about the 5000 and that it's the sleeper of the bunch. The earlier TX units get most of the attention, but he thinks that apart from the TX-7000, the 5000 is the best of the series. It's rated at 65W/channel but bench tests closer to 78W/channel. It's designed to run two turntables, 2 pairs of speakers and two tape/aux outputs. I've got it hooked up with the Dynaco A25's and it sounds very sweet!
Love those Nixie tubes. Incidentally, is it widely known around these parts that there are people making those things again? A bit long, but the process is interesting to watch:
