It was a cassette of Tattoo You, back when that album was first released and songs were on the radio

Great, great question. Definitely agree on Mayonaise and Drown.

I love his solo on Snail, mainly b/c of how it plays off the drums.

Starla is long among my favorites (also our puppy’s name). And I really love Zwan’s Jesus, I/Mary Star of the Sea.

Depends on what you mean by "your own money." With my allowance, I bought Kim Wilde's Select.
I have no idea what I bought with my first taxable income, probably something in the 99c bin.

Great choices, too!! I have several different friends with daughters named "Starla". Oh, the 90s!

    "Snail" is fire...

It was probably Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy when it first came out.

I’ll add Hummer. And Muzzle has my favorite James solo (at least I think that’s James...sounds like him anyway)

Abbey Road and I had to work hard and save to get it. It was a herculean task to get that damn album at 9 years old. But I HAD to have it.

If you were passionate about music and records, then you most likely do remember - especially if it was a monumental release like The Partridge Family's "Up To Date" or "More of The Monkees", or a double monument 1967-1970.

It was a big deal for me. That’s why I remember as if it was yesterday. It was 49 years ago.

For some reason I have no memory of the first album I bought with my own money, but I have a clear recollection of the first time I bought music with my own money. I bought two 45s. Billy Joel’s “It’s Still Rock n Roll to Me” and the Beatles “Eleanor Rigby.”

Early on, I was singles only. But the earliest album I recall buying was called "Top of the Pops", I think. There was a series of these albums. They essentially had all the hits of the day, but performed by someone else - so cover tunes of current music. More often than not they were terrible. I think I actually cried when I heard what they'd done to The Sweet's Blockbuster. :D
