I honestly don’t remember it was so long ago. I’m guessing it was something from STYX, probably The Grand Illusion.

The first album I could call my own was probably Christmas With The Chipmunks (1962) - although it would have been a gift, and not something I'd bought. Played it many times on the Electrohome Console Stereo.

I don't know what the first album I ever purchased was, but whatever it is it's gotta be still in my collection since I've never gotten rid of any of my vinyl. (There is a chance, however, that it was an 8-track, in which case it's long gone.)

Most likely candidates are Moving Waves (1972) by Focus, Cat Stevens' Teaser and the Firecat (1971), and Elton John (1970). Perhaps More Hot Rocks (Big Hits and Fazed Cookies) (1972) by The Stones. They all would have been originally played on a Sears combo stereo system (receiver/8-Track player, speakers, record player/changer with ceramic cartridge) many times. Surprisingly, they're all in great condition today with very little audible signs of wear and tear.

Don't know, I'll say Def Leppard's Pyromania. It might have been something earlier.

    The Who ~Live At Leeds

The Who ~Meaty, Beaty, Big & Bouncy

Later, I upgraded to original UK 1970/71 copies, but:

I Want You to Want Me was all over the radio. I was in 2nd grade.

I’ve always loved live albums and just now put together this might be one reason why.

Of the band’s 3 great records, Mellon Collie is a definite #3 for me. I put SD over Gish because it’s just a more “finished” sound to me. Great, great record.

That is a killer story. The entire thing, of course, but the note from your pops takes the cake, and your response is its icing.

I know the first music i owned were 2 7" vinyl singles when I was about 6/7 years old. Macca & Slade. I can't really remember a time when I wasn't curious or wanting to own music. When I was about 18 I started working at HMV in Liverpool. I proudly remember with my first pay cheque purchasing all the main Led Zep albums on CD in one go (still got them) alas now they're all being replaced with deluxe vinyl versions lol

Nice bit of jazz-rock with Tommy Bolin on guitar. I think it was the tune Quadrant 4 that was getting quite a bit of airplay on KSAN-FM. I really liked Tommy's playing on it.

Christ, it was a Shawn Cassidy album when I was in 3rd grade and I hate myself for it. I thought he was the first person to sing Da Doo Ron Ron. And I hate that song, too.

Get the Knack, summer 1979. Still love the album, and even bought the 192/24 FLAC version last year. Somehow I never owned this on CD, just the original vinyl I bought as a kid. Probably just as well - if I recall correctly, the first CD release contained the censored radio version of "Good Girls Don't".
