Im asking because i just got into collecting and hearing stuff about rare albums makes me want them to. So i want to search for them. I have an old man that tells me a couple of stuff here and there but not with to much information about these rare items.

Thank you for your time :)

First thing you need to know is: Collectable Vinyl will (probably) not hold its value. This should not be used as a long term investment (30-40 years). If you want to buy these because you find the allure enjoyable or want bragging rights or you end up liking the music or whatever other reason, go for it. But do that knowing it’s not a investment.

This is an audiophile forum, and while many audiophiles are collectors, many are not. There are a lot of sources out there. I use Discogs, Goldmine and Popsike, but there are many more. But I try not to discuss collecting here, as there are many who dislike the very concept of music as a “collectible” or anything other than something to be listened to. So I would never mention here that I have complete sealed sets of the McCartney DCC gold CD’s or the Led Zeppelin Classic Records reissues. . . . . Oh Damn!

Most "limited edition" goods usually do not retain its value very well in the medium-to-long term. Trying to find what records will increase in value will be nothing but a fool's errand as the saying goes, "hindsight is 20/20."

Long term investment should go towards broad market index funds.

That is a good album Cory, but from 2005 is the vinyl going to be any better than digital?

If anybody needs to tell you what you want then you are probably not a music fan. Just keep buying the stuff you love. Sooner or later you are bound to encounter rare albums automatically! :uhhuh:

But if you're just curious about top shelf stuff:

Rest assured: The chances to encounter these beauties in the wild less than zero.

But it’s not less than zero, and that’s the beauty of collecting right? The Velvet Underground acetate was actually discovered 15 or so years ago for 75 cent in a New York flea market, and later sold it for $25,000. The Dylan Freewheelin’ with original tracks has been discovered in people’s collections every decade or so. And to this day, people find hidden butcher covers. I knew someone whose sister had received two copies of Sgt Pepper for Christmas, so one was sitting sealed in a closet for 50+ years.

If it is ever found the most valuable record in the world would be the Beatles (Including Ringo) first recording, called “Summertime”. It was a demo disk made in Germany, and the only known surviving copy was rumored to have been lost at a party in the 70’s by Alan Williams, the Beatles first manager. A photo of the label exists, but (except for the Williams copy) no known surviving copies. Keep looking!

Nothing wrong with collecting man, that's just other people's opinions on things. But that's cool man I have a couple sealed albums there hard to come across. :wiggle::mad:
