I don’t know how it ends (proper ending, breakdown, tape stops), but yes, it would continue going on the 8-track.

RayS I'm having a hard time staring Chapter 2 yet. I think it's visually striking or clearly and neatly drawn and illustrated. I'm finding maybe it's a bit sparse thus far in words and yet the story-line seems to me to be developing very quickly and understandably and so it could really 'take off' so to speak in the next few chapters. I like that a few songs from Life House are alluded to in Chapter One. This box set is extensive. I'm maybe 25% through it if that.

    Silly question:

From this box set, can you make an Alternate Who's Next tracklisting, of only alternates of the album version of the songs, without any 2021 mixes that have some of the issues being complained about?

Not unless you use the Steven Wilson remixes.

    Baba (SW remix)
    Bargain (early mix)
Love Ain’t For Keeping (“unedited” remix or SW remix)
My Wife (unedited remix or SW remix)
The Song Is Over (basic track/new mix or SW remix)
Getting In Tune (take 1/new mix or SW remix)
    Going Mobile (early mix)
    Behind Blue Eyes (SW remix)
    WGFA (SW remix)

Disturbing is a very strong word. He’s not a cult leader. If he wants to bring up his issues with the set “over and over”, that’s his business, as long as he isn’t rude to others, which he isn’t.

    People can think for themselves.

Getting a chance now for a change-up to hear what is shown to me as the DTS-HD Multi CH menu option audio, but heard via my stereo connection. My Wife becomes quite different. Vocals in the center. One or two other subtle changes I hear. A panning in stereo of the guitar swells and brief pickings at the very end. Cool differences.

The new guitar solo seems noticeably more audible to me in The Song is Over in this context than in the actual dedicated stereo remix.

Not hearing that much else of any greatly interesting transformations ('positive' ones of note) in this state of play, that I would regularly return to. I'll try the other surround option (to hear it in stereo - same result I assume) that is shown me for the album, through this stereo connection (I don't have a dedicated surround setup) and maybe find something of interest there that branches into stereo. My Wife is the one track that is a keeper in this respect. Worth it as an extra 'stereo' track to add to the rest of the bonus tracks on the set, in stereo.

I think Tune may be a little longer. I'll have to check another time. If so, the time wasn't anything significant and it also faded kind of fast.

This is kind of like the argument that Paul McCartney sounds bad in concert nowadays, and the people who don’t care but are happy just to see him live, which I can’t understand.
But the difference is that yes we finally do have these great performances but unfortunately they don’t sound as good as they could have. And it’s so frustrating that for all the effort and time to put this out that it was done without the care needed to present them in their best possible way.

Thanks… that clarifies things. There is no “1/2 speed” in the deadwax of the discs in the 3 or 4 disc sets.

‘Absolutely he is an asset to this forum for his knowledge on certain artists.
Had Mr. Hoffman said the same things would all you be complaining to him as well?

Have you mentioned to anyone from Your UK connections your dislike for the SF CDs?
What do you think the chances that either you or @jamiehowarth being allowed to remix/remaster from the digital 16 track (with them going no further) for free sharing to anyone..... or people with proof of box purchase?

just release the 16 track digitally and a variety of canned applause samples and we can all have a go!

What I like about the crowd in Live at Leeds is the interaction between the band and the crowd : when the band makes jokes, they laugh. Is it the case on the bootleg versions of SF 71 ?

I tried narrowing the stereo spectrum on the Frisco show. It didn’t help.

Pete Townshend calls the shots and this box includes two CD’s of all-Pete demos. My suspicion is that he wanted Keith Moon’s legacy to be loud and clear on the live shows. Individually, each drum in Moon’s kit is almost as loud as the guitar. With two hands and two feet, the drums dominate the mix.

And judging from the audience reaction, My Wife was The Who’s biggest crowd-pleaser. Rest In Peace, John Entwhistle and Keith Moon.

I’m not too fussed about it. I can’t imagine ever wanting to sit through this version of Magic Bus again.

It some impossible nowadays here to just cut to the chase and find out quick what a pressing sounds like.

As it is, I have the Classic Records and Kevin Gray pressings and this 1/2 speed master doesn't come any where near either of them. I am disappointed, but never mind, at least I have the other two.

I still like the 90s remixes for a fair amount of the catalog. There’s a reason I’ve kept them all these years despite the increasing availability of physical and digital alternatives featuring the original mixes. I mean, I want the originals too because they are original, but I don’t have an objection to remixing.

If someone were putting together a basic Who collection I wouldn’t tell them to avoid the 90s discs. They remain the easiest and most cost effective way to put together a basic Who collection. I’m a little surprised they haven’t really done a “ whole catalog” type box for The Who yet as exists for many other artists.

Bottom line, obviously I'm still going to listen to SF and enjoy the stellar performance. I'll just have to grit my dentures inbetween the songs.

There must be some kind of access/availabilty issue with John's demos that explains why nothing has appeared on any of these sets - either in licensing their use, or the plain fact they no longer exist with anyone willing to supply them. It can't be that Pete would begrudge him the CD space (I know that's not what you're suggesting BTW).

Demos for Silas Stingy, Someone's Coming, Facts Of Life (with vocal), She's A Witch, Green Lady etc - all existing in A Certain Collector's vault but sadly not a part of these SDE releases.

Is the *rough mix* of the SF Dec. 13 concert the California radio station recording and mix, or perhaps something else?
I probably won't be listening to the SDE concerts for a few days yet.

Also, much obliged, if someone can point me to a Universal customer service? phone # or email address as the blu ray disc I have doesn't want to play through the last 2 Bonus Tracks of Relay and Long Live Rock. It seizes up and it makes some nasty noises while doing so. Still waiting on that Universal Music free LP they were supposed to send of Marley's Catch A Fire - the Jamaica Mix or no London overdubs mix. Suppose I'll never see that one arrive.

Haven’t opined yet was holding off to both listen to streams and get others opinions/ responses on the sonics of the box. I was impressed by the range of music included when it was announced. I haven’t ordered the SDE yet. My one real beef was including that graphic novel. I have less than zero interest in it.
Adds to cost and takes up space.

I was extremely excited about the full SF show though. It was one of the main reasons I would pull the trigger to buy this. So when I started listening to streams of it and visions of Live Yardbirds crowd noise along with this really weird mix, especially Keith’s drum sound, danced in my head I was ….what happened ??? This is amateur hour. The SF sound is an utter face plant IMO. I was anticipating multiple raving listening sessions but they killed that with what they did.
I can afford the SDE cost but the combo of this wonky SF show sound along with that graphic novel has halted this as an impulse buy now. These big boxes take up too much shelf space and unless the contents warrant it I can easily live without them. Maybe in a month I will cave in and grab one. But I have no FOMO that this will sell out anytime soon.

Okay, thanks. I was worried that because the crowd noise was changed, some interactions would’ve been lost. But it seems like it’s not the case, so I can définit live with the new mix
