Yup. One or maybe two of the big American car manufacturers had in-dash 45 players at one time on some of their models, either out from the factory or as an option (I'd have to dig up some names, I read this some time ago).

Those things must've tracked at like 100 grams for the stylus not to skip while playing a 45 on a speeding car.

I've been enjoying the heck out of my turntable lately, so much so, my cd player is turning green with envy. I've been enjoying a wide range of music and some of my favorites have been:

Frank Zappa: Zoot Allures (Original press from UK)
Frank Zappa: Over-nite Sensation (White Label Promo)
Donald Fagen: The Nightfly (what a killer sound, very warm and natural)
    With The Beatles (German pressing)
Merle Haggard: Roots of My Raising

I've listened to a bunch more, but these have been my faves as of recently.

Riviera 521 029 Requiem par Jean-Christian Michel Quattuor Avec Orgue.

A superb jazz LP featuring Jean-Christian Michel on clarinet, Monique Thus on cathedral organ, Jean-Jacques Capalongo on trombone, and I cannot remember whom on string bass and drums.

From the land that gave you Françoise Hardy ...

    Currently on the TT:

    Genesis - ABACAB (UK Charisma)

Also been playing a lot of Gerry Rafferty - City to City (inspired by the recent thread) and Alan Parsons - The Turn of a Friendly Card.

Hey Claus, I'm in the same boat also. Sorry to hear you're out of work too. But I'm still trying to enjoy myself. On the turntable right now, promo 12" of "Wide Receiver" by Michael Henderson that just arrived in my mail box this morning. Love how that bass shakes the walls on that extra loud cut!!! :D

I have an original mono 45 of Born To Be Wild on ABC/Dunhill. it was played quite often so it sounds a little scratchy. The middle eight actually sounds a little different. I'm used to the Steve's mix, so I'll have to compare it.

Quck question for you, did you go directly to the Shure cart or live with the stock one for a while? Just wondering how much better the Shure sounds. Sorry for the threadcrap.

I’ve been listening to my scratchy copy of the 1982 Columbia comp Psychedelic Dream. I am trying to gather CDs to make a CD version of the album. The track list is:

    SIDE 1:

    1. The Byrds - Renaissance Fair
    2. Terry Reid - Superlungs My Supergirl
    3. Aorta - What's In My Mind's Eye
    4. Gun - Situation Vacant
    5. Spirit - Dream Within A Dream

    SIDE 2:

    1. Spirit - Topanga Windows
    2. Grace Slick and The Great Society - White Rabbit
    3. Kaleidoscope - Keep Your Mind Open
    4. The United States Of America - The Garden Of Earthly Delights
    5. Kak - Lemonade Kid

    SIDE 3:

    1. July - Friendly Man
    2. Kak - Electric Sailor
    3. The Peanut Butter Conspiracy - Too Many Do
    4. The Byrds - Eight Miles High
    5. John Kay & The Sparrow - Isn't It Strange (Canada)

    SIDE 4:

    1. July - My Clown
    2. The Hollies - Dear Eloise
    3. The Head Shop - Heaven Here We Come
    4. Aorta - Sleep Tight
    5. Aorta - Catalyptic

This would be a great starting point if Sony wanted to do a sixties bo xset ala Nuggets.

Dude, any less would be uncivilized. :)

I have a German Arista pressing which is nice too. I tend to pretend I don't have the US Arista copy, a record club pressing at that...it was my sisters. Yuck!

On my turntable right now is... a pile of CDs. :D

Actually, I just picked up The Free Design "Redesigned - The Remix E.P. Vol. 1" - should be interesting...

  19. Last night I was listening to bits of three different pressings of A Hard Day's Night. This morning it's...it's my avatar!, a beat up original mono copy of the Capitol Canada BEATLEMANIA! With The Beatles. Sounds surprisingly good despite the condition of the vinyl, but then again it's a straight cut from the U.K. tapes. No Dextorzing here.

Katrina and the Waves 2 - Katrina and the Waves second Canadian Attic Records release in '84.

Their first Attic LP, Walking on Sunshine was there earlier.

I was comparing the sound of the LPs with the new "Original Recordings 1983-1984" CD which covers both Attic Records material. Too bad they couldn't include their earlier "mini-LP" on UK's Aftermath Records, Shock Horror, when they were just The Waves. I have that one too.
