A soundboard recording of Led Zep from Offenberg Germany in 1973. I dont think it exists but recently someone assured me it does. Curiouser and curiouser.
Here is one "Holy Grail" record many won't have - the (1993) 7" single of that name, by Hunters and Collectors (from the album Cut):
Golden Grails still left on my want list: Billy Nichols - Would You Believe lp (Immediate) I actually have a shot at a supposedly nearmint copy but the owner wants around $20,000 to free it loose. Scorpio Tube - Yellow Listen I passed up on that last copy that came up on eBay a couple of years ago (for $2700) and I regret it. Been on my want list for 37 years Cavemen - It's Trash A copy came up on ebay over a year ago and I missed out on it because of a typo in my search algorithm. AAAARGGGHHH! Apple - An Apple A Day lp Never ever seen a copy of this one come up for sale. Would love to have it but I think I'll have to fork out $5000+ for a clean copy if one ever shows up nowadays
Be careful with this one - bootlegs have been around since at least 1980 (our local Hip Capitalists were selling them for US $10 each at the time).
Several of the mid 60s r 'n b 45s that Jimi Hendrix plays guitar on. Some are outrageously expensive. If you want to sell one, pm me!
There are probably many, but the one that immediately came to mind for me is: Kiss Let Me Go, Rock n Roll / Hotter Than Hell (US 45 Single) Casablanca NB 823 I do have the promo version of this elusive single which is, interestingly, much more common to find than the actual commercial single (even though it's not "common" either).
I can recommend this excellent reissue, cut from the original mono master: The Residents - Meet The Residents
Wha...20,000?! My entire collection isn't worth that much. I just searched discogs, someone's selling a copy for £7800 which is still a mini fortune but much cheaper. Here's the link: Billy Nicholls - Would You Believe: buy LP, Album at Discogs
An original Regal Zonophone Move - Shazam UK pressing. I was in my favorite record store (now sadly gone) about 15 years ago and I pulled one out of the bin. My heart was racing. The cover was an RZ. But the LP was a US A&M (which I have). Someday, Someway...
I did a flat transfer needle drop to cd...no EQ'ing, and only a few manual click removals, and it's my go-to for Some Girls
An original 'John Lennon Sings The Great Rock & Roll Hits - Roots'. Not for the contents - but without one my collection just isn't quite complete. Chip Madinger www.lennonology.com
These items...the last three, especially the Rosa Lee Brooks 45, are very expensive and hard to find Ray Sharpe With The King Curtis Orchestra – Help Me (Get The Feeling) (ATCO, 1966) Lonnie Youngblood – Go Go Shoes / Go Go Place (Fairmount, 1966) Jimmy Norman – You're Only Hurting Yourself/That Little Old Groovemaker (Samar, 1966) The Icemen – (My Girl) She's A Fox / (I Wonder) What It Takes (Samar, 1966) Curtis Knight & The Squires - Hornet's Nest / Knock Yourself Out (RSVP, 1966) Billy Lamont – Sweet Thang / Please Don't Leave (20th Century Fox, 1968) The Dealers – You Got It/(We're So) Glad That We Made It (Big Bunny 1966) Frank Howard & The Commanders - I'm so glad / I'm sorry for you (Barry Records 1966) Rosa Lee Brooks – My Diary / Utee (Revis Records 1965)
Nothing too exotic but original pressings of the first two Big Star albums at a reasonable price would be top of my list.
There was a reissue last year. I grabbed mine from Juno.co.uk for abour $20. No, they aren't official, but they are all hand numbered. Nirvana - Love Buzz b/w Big Cheese
