What's the best vinyl version of Hotel California?

Hard to find a bad pressing. DCC, Mofi, KG or 1st press US all sound great. Slight differences. I find the KG a little laid back, the DCC a little strident, the Mofi a little too spacious and artificial. Very, very small niggles though when they all sound great. For me it's the originals that sound best though. US is good, but its the German WEA/Elektra that i give the edge to. Perfect in every way!

Thank you for your samples. I compared „Hotel California“ to a needledrop of the DCC, listening on my computer with headphones. In my opinion the WEA/Elektra has bass that overwhelms everything else and the lead vocals are not completely natural. The DCC has a fuller voice and strong, well defined bass – its more natural overall.

German better pressed than the UK, much better surfaces.

Well, the Bernie Grundman mastered vinyl sounds quite nice. The balance is excellent, but the separation is superb. There is a clarity on this album I have never heard on any other version(cd, tape) Though it does about match the clarity of the dvd-a, I also own. I pretty much expected the worst, with all praise for this album mostly going to the DCC, and Kevin Gray mastered version. If those are so much better than the bg cut, holy #&@! I just can't imagine, not that I wouldn't want to. But, I was in my local shop, it was in brand new condition, though opened, and reasonably cheap $15.

yes that it. Now the question is, Felder goes on and on about how they recorded the vocals overnight without him there so.. hence VOL is 5 piece live can not be if Felder is telling us the truth

YEa very cool those outro writings. Were these on like millions of the first pressings or are these rare

My US original copy, with code that starts with 7E, has this text.
Don't know if it is present on second pressing (code 6E) and repressing...

Well at least concerning ' Victim of Love' management,(Irving)admitted it himself, they took Felder out to lunch while they recorded Henleys vocals.(see interview on History of the Eagles)there was no way he was getting that lead vocal. (Henley and Frey deny they were gonna let him sing it)But, in fairness, I doubt it would've touched Henleys vocals. Clearly, if Felder had any kind of decent voice, he would've gotten something to sing, nearly everyone else did.

So are they saying Felder didnt even play guitar on the song. They are claiming VOL is live so either he was there when the vocals were done or it wasnt live

Felder was NOT there when vocals were cut for VOL. Now, that's not to say the whole band didn't record the track live to/with the already recorded vocal track.

Of course Felder played guitar on VOL. He wanted to sing it though, and even had a go at it recording a vocal track, but as Henley put it, "It wasn't up to band standards". And Felder insisted he was promised lead vocal on it, of course Frey and Henley claimed the opposite.

I have the KG pressing (both the EU and US pressings) and definitely pleased. Evidently it is AAA versus the hi-rez BG cut. I would expect it stacks up to the DCC but cannot compare, unfortunately.

The KG version is really very nice sounding. It has good bass that is not overpowering but it is there... you know, just the right amount of it imho.
Very analog, clear and warm sounding pressing.

I saw Felder playing at a local casino (FEB 2017). His vocals were acceptable, but his guitar playing was exceptional. Hotel California, Life In The Fast Lane, etc all sounded amazing. He opened for the current incarnation of Grand Funk Railroad. IMHO, I enjoyed Mr Felder much more.

I have an original which is colored and was pressed by Ted Jensen Sterling. It blows all the other versions out of the water. Good luck finding one!

  20. Which original Hotel California Sterling TJ (?) was pressed on coloured vinyl?

I don't see anything on Discogs about a colored version. Do you have a link for any info?

  25. Making a big statement like that around here is going to raise some eyebrows. I'd still love to know what copy "blows all other versions out of the water" as the DCC, Hulko, KG, and BG cuts are no slouches.

    You have our attention..
