What's the difference between intermission and entr'acte?

    And if there isn't one, why did they put up title cards for both in the middle of films?

    Supposedly the entr'acte features a piece of music, while this is not necessarily the case in the intermission. But the terms are almost synonymous so I imagine their use is interchangeable (or the French will look classier) unless as you cite, a film uses both.
