What's with Jeff Bridges and that weird speech thing he's got going?

As I recall, Jeff Bridges used to talk in a very normal and clear fashion. Think "Starman" or some of his earlier work. When did he develop the under bite and the mouth-full-of-marbles approach to speaking? I just saw "Hell or High Water"and it seems that he's talking stranger than ever. It kind of ruined the movie for me. Anyone else notice this or is it just me?

He is the same in Seventh Son. Made the film unwatchable for me which is a shame as i normally love Fantasy type of films.

Perhaps he's in need of some dental bridges.

He's a great voice actor. Compare The Big Lebowski with True Grit

Both "True Grit" and "RIPD", he had that 'droll', and I've just seen him in a Lyft commercial, doing the same accent..
    maybe he LIKES doing it?.....
Haven't seen the new "Kingsman" yet, but, I'm sure its the same...

Seemed like he was just “in character”. I’ve watched Hell or High Water like five times already!

Always sounded like ill-fitting dentures to me. It's funny, but in a totally separate situation, it sounds like Leah Remini has the same thing going on now, sort of a weird, lispy thing.

  16. Jeff adopted a certain speech and voice style for his characters.
He had this overbite, slurred drawl in "True Grit" and also in "RIPD"
As much as I enjoy his acting I do wish he would have not used that particular character voice style.
I found it less than pleasant.

  18. first noticed it in The Vanishing when he gets busted up. seems to have worked well for him and he draws from it in some of his other movies. it works ok in True Grit, but The Dude is a much better characterization IMO.

I don't know. He talked normal in Tron, Against All Odds, and 8 Million Ways to Die. Three of my favorite movies.
