That's a good one, didn't think of that. Great song, very evocative of the time.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the first version of this song on Jefferson Airplane's first album "Takes Off"? Great singing by Marty Balin and Signe Anderson,

    Apparently not!

pre-Byrds David Crosby around the same time.
We Five - Charted 1965 charted at 31
Jefferson Airplane August 1966. I think this was the best version so far.

I see this song as a psychedelic masterpiece of the 60s more than a peace and love song.

Problem is the illusion has gotten stale with this song. Its seems every show or snippet about the peace and love generation has this song playing.

YMMV as far as the sentiments of this song. But see my earlier post; as a piece of music, it's flawlessly executed, and no matter how many times I hear it, there is nothing stale about it for me.

I don't believe the Crosby recording of "Get Together" was released until decades later. It wasn't included with the other Crosby tracks recorded about the same time and released on the Together label album Early L.A. in 1969.

It is a wonderful track but I think the fact I've generally avoided such documentaries has helped.
I think you're right. It's actually very good. Also found the H.P. Lovecraft (1967) version which is again quite different.

I'm pleased that The Youngbloods' Get Together has been mentioned so many times, and Oliver's fantastic Good Morning Starshine has gotten a couple of mentions. I'd like to add "The Rain The Park and Other Things" by the Cowsills:

Another from the Summer of Love compilation, the Monkees "For Petes Sake", catchy song that I think was used as the closing credits on the tv show
