Paul Reynolds, guitarist for A Flock of Seagulls, created some pretty incredible sounds, giving the group a real leg up on many New Wave/Synth bands. Interestingly, he did so while using a coin as his guitar pick. You can see this quite clearly about 50 to 60 seconds into the appended video. By the way, Brian May of Queen also used a coin.

Jeff Beck has also, I saw a guy in a guitar shop looking a pick that was close to the subway token he was using at the time.

I think Michael Azerrad mentions this as a fact but it's not true - Negative Creep does.

I have always been amused by the fact that the first Mike Oldfield album to top the UK charts was... Hergest Ridge. It spent three weeks at the top before being dethroned by Tubular Bells, which had been released a year earlier.

I've always liked the anecdote that Leonard Cohen, in his "Che Guevara" phase, was one of very few - possibly only - Western tourists in Cuba during the Bay of Pigs invasion. He was arrested at the airport, suspected of involvement, but managed to sneak out onto to his airplane while guards were tending to another emergency.

If I recall correctly, although the song title is "She's a Rainbow", the lyrics do not actually say so, only that she was like a rainbow.

Yup, Diana Rigg and Patrick MacNee or the real Avengers as we of a certain age say.

Paddy also had a hit with Ms Rigg's predecessor, ***** Galore herself Honor Blackman.

And the lyric writer went on to write Les Miserables.

A pre-Kiss Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons can be heard providing background vocals on Tommy James 1972 hit Celebration (Roulette 7135).

The song charted for just 3 weeks, peaking at #95 in November of 1972.

Kiss songs that might have been...

These are 5 songs (among countless others) that were all genuine titles/song ideas from Gene Simmons songwriting scrapbook in the 1970's:

The Girl Who Makes People Smile 1972/1973
    Kansas City Kitty 1974
    Star Lady 1975
    Penny Arcade 1976
    Sincerely 1977

Among Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley's earliest pre-Kiss "Music Credits" include singing for select TV commercials. One of the known ones was a commercial by vehicle manufacturer AMC.

A mother/daughter combination has never topped the charts. Father/daughter is old hat - Frank and Nancy, Ozzy and Kelly. Even mother and son - the Lieutenant Pigeon pianists were mother and son. Never mum and daughter though.

And three brothers have had separate hits: Eden Kane, Peter then Robin Sarstedt. It's just a shame My Resistance is Low didn't get to number 1.

Good shout but I believe they only topped the Country charts.

On another matter, Slim Borgudd, the Abba drummer, raced in Formula 1 and actually came sixth in the 1981 British GP, won by John Watson.

Lots of albums have a good first week based on the quality of the previous one. Tubular Bells was a slow-burn/word of mouth success. I think there was some hype around the release of Hergest Ridge.
