Fogerty....I Saw it on TV They sent us home to watch the show coming on the little screen A man named Ike was in the white house big black limousine There were many shows that followed from hooter to dootyville Though I saw them all I can't recall which cartoon were real The coons skin caps Yankee bats the hound dog mans big start The A bomb fears Annette had ears I lusted in my heart A young man from Boston said "sail the new frontier" And we watched the dream dead end in Dallas They buried innocents that year I know it's true oh so true cause I saw it on T.V. We gathered round to hear the sound coming on the little screen The grief had passed the old men laughed and all the girls screamed Cause four guys from England took us all by the hands It was time to laugh time to sing time to join the band But all too soon we hit the moon and covered up the sky They built the bombs and aimed their guns and still i don't know why The dominoes tumbled and big business roared Every night at six they showed the pictures and counted up the score I know it's true oh so true cause I saw it on T.V. The Old man rocks among his dreams a prisoner of the porch The light he said at the end of the tunnel Was nothing but a burglars torch And them that was caught in the cover are all rich and free But they chained my mind to an endless tune When they took my only son from me I know it's true oh so true cause I saw it on T.V. I know it's true oh so true cause I saw it on T.V.
Looks like both my choices were previously posted, not sure how I missed that. My mind must've been destroyed by too much TV.
apparently TV stands for something else in that song , but it probably has been most widely heard to mean that. Heard it was Twat Vibe i.e. something more sexual
I'm pretty sure someone interviewed for the Please Kill Me book confirmed that, yes, TV in this song stands for something else.
Quit Hollerin' At Me by John Prine I don't want your big french fry I don't want your car I don't want to buy no soap From no washed-up movie star You are so much louder Than the show i wanna hear With your sugarless gum Gee, but I'm dumb Non-alcoholic beer It's enough to make a grown man Blow up his own tv Quit hollerin' at me Quit hollerin' at me
'Idiot Box' by The Damned is probably the only song written about Television the band: I can't turn you off I just try and laugh you off Tumbling you maybe are But you sure ain't rock n roll People standing in the rain Just to see a dream of him Supersonic, oh come back soon 'Cause all we got is a marquee moon Billy singer don't waste my time Just turn on to "What's my line" Richard Lloyd you hear us knock You sure have wrote "The Golden Shot" People standing in the rain Just to see a dream of him Supersonic, oh come back soon 'Cause all we got is a marquee moon Old Fred Smith works from a box Oh what a haggard face Hope he gets lots of shots From his fender bass
A little meta since i think this is actually a comment on Tom Verlaine's crew. Had been trying to think what other songs there were about them. I don't think the Damned enjoyed their interaction with the band, like.
