It's kind of a toss up for me with any of their first 3 albums - I love all 3, but I honestly cannot listen to anything they put out after those first 3.

Not my favorite, but I’ve always loved Big Thing and it recently celebrated its 30th anniversary.

Very interesting interview of the band and producers looking back on it.

Thanks for posting. I liked the part where they said that the weird middle sound sequence of Palomino was influenced by what they found in the field in Blue Velvet. I always wondered why they put that odd sound there.

Your welcome - if you like that album, check out the live DVD in the Deluxe boxset. There is a great live version of that song and of "Too Late Marlene" as well.

True. I was disappointed that the Nile Rodgers collaboration turned out to be the worst track on the album.

Great album. I do not think I have ever seen this song, though I have seen a couple of the 17 from this concert. I will have to watch it all tonight.

Warren looked right for them, like he belonged from the beginning.

Here, nice read! Amazing how well Nick actually knows his bands output. I mean.... he wrote these things but pick an album and he can tell you exactly what's on it!

Nick Rhodes Corrected Our 10 Best Duran Duran Songs List

They should have taken the chance and ask him about vinyl (re)issues of "Medazzaland" and "Pop Trash". Instead of doing another pointless "Live" set they could do these for RSD!

Hmmmm.... after finding it on vinyl recently I have been playing "Liberty" quite a bit over the last couple of days and am shocked. Because suddenly I actually like it. Obvious highlights are "My Antarctica" and "Serious" but there are so many more great things on it. I wasn't aware how much I loved "The Violence Of Summer" - the track that accordingly to one Phil Collins didn't sound like DD!

Like "Medazzaland" it seems to be a bit of a "Nick album" and I think the much criticised production has actually aged better than the ones on "Notorious" and "Big Thing" - which I both love. So all in all the more streamlined and elegant sound suits them well. So, I don't really get the hate for it. And I'm not even a superfan. (Or would this be a contradiction in itself after admitting to like "Liberty"?)

Ha, and I love cover and title. Because in 1990 the word "liberty" - at least in Europe - was deeply associated with political issues and the coming down of the wall. And while everybody was making grand statements, voilà: Here are Duran Duran doing what they've always been accused of. Making merry at an amusement park with super models. In Paris. Liberty, indeed! :biglaugh:

That is a great interview with Nick, and I agree with his more than the magazine's choices. With all this talk about Liberty, I am going to give it another go, as it has been about twenty or so years since I have.

Tough to pick amongst the first ones, but actually I have to go with the wedding album, there is just something about the sound that I like. Also "Reach Up For The Sunrise" on Astronaut is a really great track. It is cool when bands can come up with great stuff so many years after starting out. A friend just saw them in Vegas and said the show was really good, much better than he expected.

The two songs you cited are obvious highlights and I love the title track too.

I have to disagree on Violence and think it is their worst single ever. But it is not even the nadir of the album (Hothead).

Side two is the worst album side in DD catalog for me.

I thought "Liberty" meant a sailors vacation? Lots of sailors in England.

I always thought "The Violence Of Summer" was a great song. I would also put what could be their hardest rocker ever, "First Impression" as the fourth great song on the album. The title song is very good too.

I really like "Hothead", it sounds like Shriekback. I also like "Venice Drowning" and "Downtown" but obviously we all have different tastes. Still I'm not getting why this relaxed collection of song should be their worst album. But as Nick said: "One of them has to be. (Acknowledged as all of Duran Duran’s least favorite record we’ve made)"
