and if you haven't read the Lonesome Dove book by Larry McMurtry (and the others in the series Dead Man's Walk and Comanche Moon though I'm not keen on Streets of Laredo), I'd highly recommend it... the mini-series is very faithful, but the book is better!

    Chronologically:

    My Darling Clementine
    The Searchers
    Rio Bravo
    The Magnificent Seven
    A Fistful Of Dollars
    For A Few Dollars More
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
Once Upon A Time In The West
    The Wild Bunch
    High Plains Drifter
    The Outlaw Josey Wales
    The Long Riders
    Unforgiven

That's 13, not 10, but those are my favorites. Special mention to Lonesome Dove, which is just as great as those films, but as a miniseries I place it in a slightly different category.

Just watched Firecreek and loved it. A slice of very small, and sad, town life. I preferred this to other revenge films, even Unforgiven. If you read into the film too, you know that the dumb as dirt young lady in it totally screwed the guy who tried to rape her earlier. I am really getting into Westerns. I think Westerns got better when they left the 30's and 40's which were mostly stuck in their flag waving tropes. I also had to get to the point where I realized that John Ford and John Wayne are not the end-all of Westerns, but also that they are usually a bad sign for enjoyment and a full message. I recently watched The Shootist and mostly hated it. I don't blame Don Siegel, a usually very good director, he was saddled with a film all too aware that it might be Wayne's last and most of the time is taken up in honoring his "heritage", and they forget any actual suspense/action until the very end.
