  1. I could make one pretty good album from Foot Loose & Fancy Free & Blondes have More Fun.

Atlantic Crossing is a great answer if it's meant as a joke. He would have jumped many sharks on an Atlantic crossing.

Sans joking, I still like him a lot.

Sometimes this place reminds me a bit of rateyourmusic-style hipsters, where everyone would try to top each other with only liking early stuff and seeing other stuff as the height of being uncool.

"I only liked their demo tape. They sucked after that."

"Nah--even the demo tape sucked. You should have heard those tunes at their earliest rehearsals before they ever went into even a budget studio."

Also when they take up a "residency" somewhere.

I've actually collected a fair representation of the American Songbook by simply getting the albums of the "crooners" and jazz singers who helped establish it in the first place.

I think the SHF has finally jumped the shark with this thread ...it even now suggests that Dull Moment was poor because it was too like Every Pic....and then it all falls apart when he did change with Atlantic crossing. Damned if he did change ,damned if he didn't.
I think Rod made some careers choices that some people didn't like...but didn't really sell out until the third songbook...a phase he has now left behind three studio albums and six years ago.

I wonder how much grief I would get if I posted threads about when McCartney jumped the shark (Mull of... , The Frog chorus?), Bowie ( Let's Dance?), Bruce ( when he consciously wrote hits like Dancing in the dark, how dare he)..but can't touch the sacred cows :)

You think McCartney is a sacred cow? Try to defend "Spies Like Us" on here sometime!

Also Bruce's huge Grammy-winning comeback album The Rising is currently getting trashed on a pro-Bruce thread AS WE SPEAK, so....

I was interested in his new record, but the first single has me wary.

I love Atlantic Crossing. A great soulful pop/rock album.

While reading the thread I decided to play Atlantic Crossing, it had been
years, and this title is where I said no more after this, (i did purchase his next
one upon release in '76 never to purchase a RS again). The 'fast side' is rating
about 80% right now, very R & B dominated, which is fine. It was popular
enough when it was released with my music pals (and i thought we had
decent enough taste at the time). But everything up to this point was
rock solid, and I thought a good bit of Never A Dull Moment too.

Second Half of the 70s and much of the 80s.
However since the late 80s he has done many studio and live recordings like Unplugged that have led him to partially redeem himself.
Too bad we can't get as much of that early 70s Faces swagger back.

Although the cover to “Atlantic Crossing” is wince-worthy, there’s some great songs on it..

I'd vote on Atlantic Crossing. That said, IMHO is sound changed but I like all his material.

His best is before Atlantic Crossing for sure. But to me, that was not jumping the shark!

That occurred on Blondes Have More Fun. In fact, he jumped the universe with that release, IMO. And never recovered.

Funny, for me this is the last "Rod Stewart as we knew him" album. After that it was 80's production and an ever-increasing amount of sappiness. I love FB.

Oh please - Rod Stewart has never jumped the shark.
He turned to music that people enjoyed (people who buy tickets
and albums and swag) and that pissed off all the people who
wanted to pigeon hole him into a single identity.

God Forbid a musician should want to move past his previous
schticks and grow into something else.

I like all his cheezy stateside pop hits, but his musical heart ❤️ was his mercury/vertigo/faces/python recordings.

    Exactly.
This thread is the pits, just an excuse for yet another Rod bashing by a bunch of rock snobs who are stuck in the 60's and hate almost everything released after 1972 except Paul McCartney.

I would have to disagree with that, as 2/3 of the album is pretty great.
