From the ages between my early teens into my late 20s , 'Rolling Stone ' was a source for finding out about new albums.
Picked up many fine albums from its recommendations/ reviews.
But picked up a few turkeys as well. Quite a few.
    And you?

Thanking any and all in advance for the this-has-been-done-before comment.

One that hasn’t aged well is their hyperbole heralding Pink Floyd’s “The Final Cut”. Five stars and going all in with the opening line, “This may be art rock’s crowning masterpiece, but it is also something more.”

I find it funny that they panned Led Zeppelin at the time but love em now.

Your ' five star' reference reminded me of the 5 stars they gave Jagger's 'Goddess In The Doorway' album. I like it well enough but....a little apple polishing goin'on there methinks.

Hyperbolic, sure, but definitely a 5 star album in my book.

Oh ! I vividly recall their out-and-out pan of 'Led Zeppelin 3'. Outrageous!

Using the term, "art rock," was embarrassing enough. They did it frequently.

They were pretty much spot-on about Zeppelin, particularly 3.

Haven't paid attention to the print edition since the mid 80's. Trying to maintain a balanced view. So, will often one right/one wrong.

    The right:
Can't remember specifically, but seem to recall that there was a lot praise (deserved) toward the Marshall Ceenshaw debut.

    The wrong:
They were swinging on Jim Carroll's junk with Catholic Boy. Ignored everywhere else. Confess to never even heard anything from it until last few years. First Wave occasionally plays a track or two. After the first listen to hear what the hype was all about, that was enough to make instant station change ever since.

Great debut by Crenshaw and you mentioning Jim Carroll's album made me think immediately of 'People Who Died '..I hadn't thought of it in ages.
    Cheers.

I trust Rolling Stone's judgement less than I trust my neighbor Jeff.

And Jeff was convicted of fraud.

No edge. Just my opinion. Cool cover though, with that spinning thing.

If that expression is used during a conversation, it should be greeted with snickers.

In a conversation about the history of terms used to describe what in the 1990s-present was referred to as "progressive rock?"

    No, I don't agree.

Jimmy B. isolation can harm you terribly

When it was wrong: when Dave Marsh wrote about The Dictators Go Girl Crazy!, slamming both that and Fun House by The Stooges in the same review,
showing his complete lack of understanding about rock and roll.
