About a year ago, I could see some 2014 Mono Boxes listed for under $1000. I have not seen a new one or NM used box list for under $1500. Most $2000 and up for a sealed set. Some are listed at $3000 and up, I highly doubt those will sell. Anyway, could you see the Mono set getting much higher in value?
My crystal ball says it'll climb a bit higher in the next few years, then peak. Why? Because demand will exceed supply by a huge margin. I snagged a box the day it was released, and I'm glad I did! A few years ago I also snagged all the albums individually, sealed while they were cheap. Now that sealed $25 Rubber Soul has sold for $130-$202 on Ebay.
I agree. I even see The Beatles in Mono box set without the box and book (basically all the individual albums) for $2000. The Beatles in Mono 14 LP Analog Set on Vinyl New Still Sealed (Records Only) | eBay
That’s why you have to jump on these LPs or box sets when they are issued. I’ve missed the boat on plenty of occasions. And when I say “you”, I mean in general.
I'd really love to know how many of them were made, because I'm sure the number isn't as low as the current prices seem to indicate. Collectors have developed a frenzy for anything out of print recently. Even LP's that are just awaiting a repress have gone way up because they're "unavailable". It's not sustainable.
How many boxes were pressed? Maybe the answer is here, if anyone wants to go through eight pages. 2014 Beatles Mono Vinyl- How many pressed and why are they scarce?*
I have noticed some music matters jazz titles going for slightly less since Blue Notes Classic records campaign.
I wouldn’t. $3,000 is still a relative bargain compared to what it would cost to assemble a comparable set of truly mint originals from Parlogram or another reputable dealer in the crème de la crème of high-end Beatles records. You can forget about owning a mint original mono Please Please Me with the original label and the earliest Dick James music credits and all that unless you’re rich. You can forget about owning a mint original mono White Album with all of the inserts present and the sleeve in anything approaching decent shape unless you’re prepared to drop $1,000 or more. I played my copy of Pepper from the mono box the other day and fell in love with the album all over again - you’re not going to get a better copy of any these records without spending a fortune, and the mono box pressings are arguably better than the originals in some ways.
$3k is ridiculous. I sold a NM, pretty much unplayed mono box on the forum for $950 shipped. And I've seen other mono boxes sell for same on the forum.
I bought my set upon release for just under $300.00 then sold all my vinyl along with the set because we moving into a smaller place..a decision I regretted. Then back into vinyl and had to have the set back. Paid $700.00 Canadian about two years ago.. I thought it was a lot at the time but really wanted the set again. No regrets now... Unless there is a repress..who knows..it will not come down for a few years yet..
I do have The 2014 mono White Album. The bass is thru the roof good. Much more thump than the mono cd version.
When the Beatles CDs came out in 87, were any new vinyl Versions issued at the time or just the same run of the mill pressings that EMI has been chugging out for quite a while?
The pressings with the red circular "Digitally Remastered" stickers were the CD contemporary vinyl pressings. Pretty sure they are purple labels
Here is the answer (I think): 40,000 box sets were made out of 80,000 copies (of the vinyl albums) pressed.
Taking that number as the real one, those boxes, if released today, would probably sell out in less than a month. Maybe sooner. That's how much things have changed.
There's a lesson here and like the 90's kid I be, I turn to...The Wheel of Morality! Wheel of Morality, turn turn turn. Tell us the lesson that we should learn. ...Moral #4! And today's lesson is...never ask what hot dogs are made of.
