When you were a kid and listened to a song, what did you get totally wrong about it?

I thought the middle break in "Who Are You" was John Entwistle.

I guess Stars on 45 does not count, since they are a group of studio musicians, but they were nonetheless a Dutch act.

I had no idea until a few years ago that the verses and choruses on The Alan Parsons Project's "Some Other Time" were two different people.

I thought a Pet Shop Boys song was written about Freddy Krueger in Nightmare on Elm Street 2. I think it was the "I got the brains you got the body" song.

And so many misheard lyrics as a child.

Bob Dylan wasn't the only one who thought that the Beatles were singing "I get high" in "I Want to Hold Your Hand"!

I agree, Mariska was very sexy. Too bad she's passed, always thought she had a great voice.

It took me years to find out Creedence Clearwater Revival and Little Feat were not from the south. I had no idea they were both California bands at first.

I loved the "touching" lyrics to Elton John's "Sad Songs" that I heard:

    They reach into your room
    Just feel their genitals
    When all hope is gone
    Sad songs say so much

Right. Just saying, as a young kid and even a teen, I thought it was an Elton John song. Later I realized it was the Hollies.

Already being a junior Beatlemaniac at the age of 10 - in 1980...

I was certain there was an organ at the end of "She Loves You".

I thought "And I Love Her" was a Wings song.

And as I taped Beatle songs off the radio with a cassette, was positive "World Without Love" was a Beatle song, so it made it on there.

    Good topic.

Chairmen of the Board, Give Me Just a Little More Time. I knew every lyric by heart, but I was in my thirties before I realized- he's not trying to postpone a committment, he's trying to avoid being dumped.

Shake Rattle and Roll, Comets version. I thought the singer wanted the subject to the same degree that a (one-eyed) cat wanted seafood. It took my younger brother, who had never previously heard the song, to chuckle knowingly, and it was then, only then, that I got the joke.

Hound Dog- thanks to the Elvis interpretation it was many moons before I could truly appreciate the other versions.

I was shocked... shocked, I tell ya!... when sometime around 1980 I discovered that Whiter Shade of Pale was not by Derek and the Dominos!

I used to think "Instant Karma" was by Peter Frampton becuase my brother or sister had a pic sleeve 45 of Frampton's "Shine On" (I thought that was the name of the song). I was like 6.
