When you were a kid and listened to a song, what did you get totally wrong about it?

I was really into All Things Must Pass as a kid, even before I heard all of the Beatles albums. I also really liked While My Guitar Gently Weeps. I thought George Harrison played all the guitar. Didn't learn about Clapton until years later.

I thought Ruby Tuesday was by the Beatles. Same with "World Without Love," and at least I was in the ballpark on that one. I also thought Stan Freberg did all the male voices on his records.

From my wife, thought "Jack And Diane" lyric was "let the bottle bill come and save my soul". She grew up in Oregon, what can I say?

Another good one I heard as a kid which people sang (as kids) after hearing them were:

I'm your fetus/pee-nis, I'm your fire, at your desire
'Scuse me while I kiss this guy
A gay pair of guys put up a parking lot (Big Yellow Taxi)
He's a carpet-cleaning man, and no-one understands him but his woman (Theme From Shaft)
There's a bathroom on the right (Bad Moon Rising)

When I read things like this I think of these vids. They are a bit naughty but not too bad as a warning

    That sounds like ME!!

I thought that rhythm guitar and lead guitar were two separate instruments and it'd be no good trying to play one on the other...

Embarrassed that I didn't really understand what "The Lemon Song" was about until I was 40.

There's a song from the 90's where part of the chorus sounded an awful lot like 'chocolate bar". The problem is I have no idea what the song is. Because if I put that in a search, nothing comes up. So if anyone knows a song that sort of sounds like 'chocolate bar', let me know. :)

Well, we didn't exactly have a good source of information for this stuff back then. I had to find out by going to the musical instrument section of Music City. Then I learned a lot..

My usual source of 'information' was an elder brother. That must speak volumes!

It is "Spill the wine, take that pearl." It doesn't sound like it to me, though.

For the longest time I thought Hello It's Me was by Carole King.
I was very surprised to learn it was Todd Rundgren.

My mom had Meet the Beatles and Introducing the Beatles. My dad had a cassette that had later Beatles tracks and two solo tracks. For quite some time I didn't realize all those sounds came from the same band and that Imagine and Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey came out after that band was gone. I still love that home brewed comp though.

I always thought Mele Kalikimaka was "the wise way" (should be "Hawaii's way") to say, "Merry Christmas to you."
