I believe Andy said this was the year for the beginning of the Police Deluxe Edition Album Campaign to begin. Have there been any updates?
We're only just into March - they may be planned for October/November. They're bound to be releasing vinyl and we know how backed up that is right now.
Hm, first time I hear about that campaign. Would love to see deluxe editions especially for Zenyatta Mondatta and Synchronicity!
I saw the Ghost In The Machine tour at the Boston Garden. It was a great show but from what I remember it was a fairly short one at about 90 minutes. The Synchronicity show at Foxboro Stadium was a great show as well but a bit longer in time and songs. Although I was in the nose bleed seats for that one. The Zenyatta tour has been a white whale for me. I can't believe The Police Around The World never was upgraded to DVD!
I think they would sell well, especially since they have given us very few things from the archives ever since the band broke up. They didn't even manage to squeeze in 1 unreleased track on the Message In A Box set.
Can't wait for deluxe digital hi-res releases. Been high on my wishlist since starting with hi-res audio in 2011. The Japanese SACDs from around a decade or so ago sounded pretty good, from what I recall.
The three albums (Outlando, Zenyatta, Synchronicity) done on SHM- SACD in 2010 used the same subpar DSD masters as the 2003 SACD. The two which were released in 2014 from new DSD transfers (Regatta & Zenyatta) were better. Synchonicity was re-issued in 2016 from a new DSD transfer and that one’s good too.
Ok, thanks. My timeline was obviously off (Hey, I'm getting old!), but, I don't believe that the versions I heard were the same as the 2003 SACDs, based on my admittedly failing memory. I'm going to presume my buddy had a couple of the latter ones. In any case, seeing as I'm now entirely digital, I'm hopeful, and very much looking forward to them being offered in the best quality digital presentations possible, regardless of source.
Like I said earlier, right in my post, my buddy had them. I heard them. I didn't record the liner notes to memory, and I've not disputed the information you provided. Don't know how many times, in how many ways, I can say I'm excited for some new versions, but, I'll say it once more and now we can move on. LOL
I’m not too familiar with this type of stuff from them, but this looks amazing. I can’t wait to get my hands on this!
The Police Around the World was a documentary about their 1980 tour. It's really great. Can't wait to see the added footage.
Stewart Copeland confirms The Police ‘Around the World’ reissue – SuperDeluxeEdition From the article: Stewart Copeland has confirmed via his official website that The Police Around The World video will be reissued across various formats, in May. Originally released on VHS in 1982 (and later laserdisc), Around The World is a documentary that chronicles The Police’s first world tour, as the band travel to Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, India, Egypt, France, Latin America and Los Angeles. It has never been issued on DVD or blu-ray. Last August, Andy Summers told SDE that it was coming, saying “It’s taken forever to get it sorted, because of issues like restoring 16mm film and getting the extras up to 4K level. There are a lot of bonus tracks and footage, including film from Japan that’s never been seen. The performances in that film are really nice and I’ve very pleased it’s coming out”. According to the Stewart Copeland post, the formats will be CD+DVD combo, CD+book and 2LP vinyl, although SDE has seen artwork that appears to confirm there’s an LP+DVD (see above) with “9 live tracks previously unavailable on LP”. No word about a blu-ray, but if indeed it has been restored to 4k levels there surely must be one.
What was subpar about them? They seem pretty dynamic from what I can tell. What are the best versions then?
This is number one on my personal want list. I just hope they don’t release Gateshead as I’m not a big fan of that show. Hopefully, one of the South American shows as a blu-ray could be added.
I hope there is further clarification about formats. The film I haven't seen but would be good to watch. I think we are all more interested in the full songs on the CD or LP, and any full performances included as extras on the visual discs.
