Well, I respect your opinion but I take a different view.

For me they are the best folk rock band to come out of the States.

i remember them getting some flak for getting the opening slot on Philly Live Aid, due to their connection with Bill Graham (wasn't he managing them ?).

use to do this song as a cover with my school band...think it went down well with the girls whenever we played it.

Yes, they are underrated. The Hooters have their own sound. Even their early records are quiet unic because of those mix of new wave, folk, ska. For me they are in the same league as The Fixx, but a little more stronger. BTW, just got Zig Zag Japanese CD - very good mixing and mastering.

One Way Home is my favorite record by them. But then I only have four and Zig Zag, which I've not heard, isn't one of them.

I’m a Philadelphia boy. They were huge locally but I checked out after One Way Home. Looking back, they were experienced professionals who understood they were about to age out of the pop music business. Local music impresario Steve Mountain Of Cornerstone Management showed them how to go gold. They got gold records, matching suits, notes after every show... The challenge was how to sustain a band based on MTV images when MTV wasn’t cool anymore.

The band has chops. Rob Hyman and Eric Bazillion wrote enough monster hits for Ms. Lauper and Ms. Osbourne that they really don’t have to work another day. The fans in Germany still love them and they’re good for occasional show in Philadelphia but my attention isn’t on them. Respect for anyone who’s still on the bandwagon.

It is truly grasping for a low hanging fruit to go negative on a band by the name of the Hooters, especially if said band rose to prominence in the 80's, an oft vacuous time of big hair and spandex. However, if one digs a bit deeper, you will find that this band could not only play their varied instruments proficiently but also put wide-ranging and sometimes deep meaning into their songs (Satellite, Brother Don't You Walk Away, etc.). Sure, we are not talking Dire Straits here but neither are we discussing Milli Vanilli. The Hooters were quite talented and created some very novel sounds, some of which continue to grow on me today.

So yeah, I think it is worthwhile to re-examine these guys, and there are various ways to do so. The Hooters Playlist set is a good place to start as it was mastered by Vic Anesini and sounds terrific. At the other end of the spectrum, one can gather their entire late 80's output from Nervous Night to Zig Zag by simply purchasing the two-CD BGO set (BGOCD1072, UPC 5017261210722).

I still see their T-shirts all the time, mostly worn three sizes too small by college-aged women, so clearly they have SOME fans....

No, they were terrible, I saw them three times as an opening act, one of the worst bands ever.
