Writers and composers at best, Lennon & McCartney, Dylan maybe. The number will be so few only those that have had huge cultural impact, and there are not really many of those.

I don't think many 20th century artists will be popular 200 years from now but I think many will be "remembered" as long as there is a music distribution system that provides access to nearly all recordings all the time anywhere on earth for a low price. Convenience and accessibility will keep many artists alive for a very long time especially if the powers that be can make money off it.

I can imagine a 23rd century man coming home from work and commanding his robot: "Alexa, play popular music from the 20th century."

Possibly. I think the cultural context will be lost so it would run the gamut of all popular artists from the century.

I think all rock music will be called "Beatles music", the way people who are unfamiliar with classical music hear something and just say "Mozart" or "Beethoven". Music historians will know that there were different genres and sub genres.

Henry Rollins. Now I know some may say, that singer? But I take into account everything else he has done as well. A marvelous commentator on all things cultural and author of over 30 books.

I have a different take on the op's question...

Perhaps anyone and everyone will be listened to, sporadically and occasionally.

Today, we have the benefit of recording and storing vast amounts of information.
Something they didn't have eons ago.
So man archives everything now and surely will continue to as memory space gets bigger and cheaper.

Technology will enable anyone to "live on" and "be heard" .

Kids in the future will constantly be rediscovering someone from "today"
    cause they will more-than-likely
Be carrying zillions of songs around with them wherever they go with whatever media device exists then.
    ( Maybe hardwired into them?)

For every Mendelssohn, Lizst, and Grieg, there were hundreds of lesser, "popular" composers of songs and light chamber music, not to mention a fair amount of more "serious" composers and performers that are not, today, household names. The same applies to the popular music boom of the last century, I think, with the notable difference being the wealth of data archived 'out there', which will mean those lesser luminaries will always be a google search away.

The 20th century will remain on record - pardon the pun - as the period of recorded music. The span of what happened in music during the last century is staggering and will preoccupy musicologists and music fans for a very long time. Further, the future promises next to unlimited access to data, instantly and for free (or for a small sum), so all of it will remain available and will be consumed in many different ways over the next 100-200 years.

All that said, I guarantee that some Louis Armstrong will come streaming out of whatever audio playback device is around in 200 years.
