They do if you use AutoTune as an effect like Cher did in "Believe," and not for pitch correction. Because then it's a way to alter the tone of a vocal and it's similar in that respect to flanging, vari-speed, tape echo, running a vocal through a Leslie cabinet, etc.

Unless "soul" and "personality" are euphemisms I can't imagine thinking that George or Ringo had more of either than Lennon or McCartney.

Than that is just more misappropriation of the term "Auto-Tuning" to reflect the parlance of it being referred to as a modulating effect and not the plug-in's original use which was pitch correction.

    Yes, I know that.

What's the prehistoric, 1966 version of Auto-Tune? All the studio tricks Lennon insisted on.

Look, I love John, I love his voice as presented on record, but it's completely processed. Paul's voice was natural and perfect every time, no technical embellishments required. That's why Paul wins the Best Voice In The Beatles contest.

Hahaha. I love Schnitz's comments. He's the only one who can act stubborn and have as unadulterated opinions as he frequently shares without bothering me. It's part of his charm. The forum would be a lot less annoying without him here, but also less fun.

Auto-tune is used to correct the pitch of the notes that were sung or played sharp or flat.
All the studio tricks Beatles used for the voice recording provided no such capability.

Auto-Tune is used to correct pitch only if you use it for its intended purpose. If you deliberately set it too high for the vocal, it works as a distortion device, altering a vocal to make it sound "cartoonish" a la Cher's "Believe."

Consider this "off-label" use of an effect. The Beatles didn't use Auto-Tune but they definitely used studio devices in an off-label way, such as running vocals through a Leslie cabinet, playing tapes backwards in the machine, and even using tape machines for loops.

Only 14 for George??? I mean, I get it, but, wow. Didn't think it'd be that low.

If the Beatles came out in trump cards.
Paul would be very hard to beat.
    voice?
    songwriting?
    musicianship?
    solo career?

    All see Paul winning

Queen made great songs, but Mercury's vocal show off often detracted from the songs.
According to my ears John Lennon changed his voice from Revolver and forwards. On Rubber Soul you could still hear a bit of the old rock 'n' roller though I think the change had begun. On Help! he was his good old self.

Btw: ->1965, John is my favorite, later it's Paul. Solo it's easily anyone but John ;)

I'd say John... Paul... and George. But also would give Ringo a chance.

Sure Philip--Macca has never once used processed "tricks" like compression, reverb or delay on his voice, not even once live.

Singing through a microphone onto recording tape or a hard drive is itself a "technical embellishment". Why flame John for making it interesting? Do you believe painters should only use primary colors in their works?

    Little known historical fact:
The reason John was so high on Magic Alex was that Magic Alex invented Auto-Tune back in the 1960's.
    Saved John's career.
