From David Foster onward, they suck.

Patchy after XI, 13 is awful and XIV is awesome.

I have the first 10 (excluding their first Greatest Hits album which I don't need) and a Greatest Hits compilation of their later stuff. That's all the Chicago I need.

The last album I thought was listenable front to back was VII. VIII was a step down from there. X, while it had the coolest cover, was a disappointment. XI wasn't very good at all (even the singles weren't any great shakes). Were it not for the loss of Terry Kath, I probably wouldn't have purchased Hot Streets at all. But I did. After that I didn't feel the need to follow the band any further.

I was gonna say XI, which owned years ago, sold, and just picked up again. However ... it still didn't do much for me. So maybe X. But then I realized I think I have 17 ... and intend to pick up Stone of Sisyphus.

So ... I guess my answer is "I don't actually know."

I have everything through Hot Streets. But, when I heard Hot Streets I knew it was time to pull the plug on one of my all time favorite bands.

I had 6 or 7 when I was a kid. When cds came along, I realized I didn't listen to anything after the second one. It was like Supertramp--"what am I doing with these lps? I can't even remember when I put them on."

I've heard Hot Streets and...I guess if I bought it when I was new and heard the ending of "Little Miss Lovin'" I would have probably stopped buying their records too. But XIV has some great stuff.

The comp, Group Portrait has pretty much all the Chicago I need. Can't say there is any album of theirs that I enjoy all the way through, but I do own CTA and II.

That's about it for me too. Borrowed a friend's copy of 21 years ago, found it unlistenable.

Up to III for me. But I've heard V and liked it so I'll probably get it some time.

Never the same after Terry, but there are a few albums I hold onto. 16 (the first of the Foster albums) was a pretty good R&B-based album, but the two ballads became hits and that changed the direction. Stone of Sisyphus was a comeback of sorts. The big-band album and the Christmas albums are generally fine-- Good arrangements, no overproduction, little schmaltz.

I think "XXX" was the one album of their with nothing at all worthwhile.

In my vinyl days I bought up to 17. Was never happy really with any of them after XI.
When I replaced them with cd's I bought the box set that came out a couple of years ago. They go up to Hot Streets which is where I wished I would have stopped in hindsight.
