Nice finds! Any idea how I can get rid of that musty old smell inside the album cover?

I take out the LP and inner, put scented dryer sheets inside the cover, put a fresh inner sleeve (with LP inside) on the outside of the cover and then an outer sleeve to hold them all together. Never put a dryer sheet in with the vinyl inside the cover. Waxy particles can shed and stick to the record. I ruined one that way that had an open hole inner.

Sometimes I leave the covers outside on a sunny afternoon just to air out. My wife used to bring home perfume sample sheets from various dept. stores and I've used those at times also inside the cover.

Man that musty old smell is original air molecules from back in the day! I have a friend who always asks me to put on Abbey Road when he visits, and he always has a quick 'toot' of the musty old smell whilst listening, to get into the zone. o_O

The Doors S/T debut. Original 1st issue Elektra.
I know and read this album is not supposed to be a sonic masterpiece but it/ this pressing sounds fine and good to me.
I plan to check matrix for which U.S. plant pressed it.
I also have a 1st issue Elektra stereo, so a comparison will be interesting.

Edit note: Regardless of all pressings cds, records and tapes.
I've always enjoyed it for the songs, and know it is an old recording but that never bothered me.
But I will add I have heard some cds that were way off and veiled sounding.

    Cheers

I had to try a bunch of dryer sheets to find a most pleasant fragrance. Some are sickly sweet or too flowery. I'm out right now so I'll shop around and do some sniff testing. Sometimes I find old vinyl that still has a new smell. As a kid I was very familiar with the aroma of US Epic LP's of the DC5. Most had those thick yellow inner sleeves. Occasionally I'll find one of their albums in real nice condition and it's retained that wonderful smell. Makes me feel like it's 1964 again and I'm glad all over.

Despite bearing an Island Records Stereo (ILPS) designation this is in fact a Mono recording, as explained by Al Stewart:

Mastered by Vic Anesini from the original mono single mixes.

(Okay, I’m fibbing a bit. I played this last night, not “currently”.)

Disc 1 seems to be all mono. It sure sounds like it. Not labeled as such in the liner notes, so I’m not absolutely sure.

This is possibly my favoutite Nat King Cole album, it's also one where I much prefer the mono mix over either the original stereo mix, or the remix by Larry Walsh. That situation would probably be different if our host and Kevin Gray had managed to get their hands on it, remix it and include it part of their Analogue Productions series of Nat albums.

Family car journey yesterday. Always like to listen to mono in these circumstances, as it means that as long as I can hear the speaker closest to me over the general racket, then I can hear the the whole track!

Yesterday's choice was some vintage Everly Brothers:

This actually transitions into stereo by the end, but the first 37 tracks are all mono.

My love of the Everly Brothers, and by extension close-part harmony, was driven by my mum playing them on car journeys, so it's only fair to perpetuate this down the generations! When I got into my own music as a teenager, I gravitated towards bands like early Weezer and Teenage Fanclub as they had those harmonies, unusual in the indie/alt-rock scene.

I found this disc at a thrift shop a few years ago. It lives in my garage CD player and routinely gets multiple rotations while doing projects. The LP box and my moms originals of course live in the house.

Last week I took the plunge and ordered this fabulous box set containg all four Manfred Mann albums with the Paul Jones line up. The set is available on both CD and Vinyl, the latter being the option I took and I have to say it's a lovely box containing four LP's and a DVD.
