I’ve never actually heard the album in stereo, but the mono mix (The Original UK one) is so perfect I can’t imagine it any other way.
My latest ones that I recall John Coltrane/Coltrane orig Impulse-awesome! Leonard Bernstein/Vialdi Concertos Columbia Masterworks 6-eye-excellent! Frank Zappa/Absolutely Free-the stereo is better IMO Rolling Stones/Between The Buttons orignal red label US-the mono is better IMO Buddy Holly Story orig UK Coral-never have heard better vocals and seperation of the instruments
It's an excellent collection with great sound, fabulous performances and with lashings of humour. These guys were pros who new how to entertain and have a whole lot of fun while doing so.
Buffalo Springfield - Buffalo Springfield Again. It's the 2019 Bellman cut. Not sure if it's AAA, it states "from Original Masters", but if there is a digital step I don't hear it. Sounds fantastic to me. Though, I really have nought to compare it to.
Right now on a grey, damp summer's day in God's own city: Elgar - 'Cello Concerto In E. Minor, Op. 85 / Sea Pictures, Op. 37 Jacqueline Du Pré / Janet Baker, Sir John Barbirolli Conducts The London Symphony Orchestra. His Master's Voice Records, UK, 1965, ALP 2106 2XEA 2839-1 AM 2XEA 2840-1 RR Mono. Perfect. Being English, I'll just have another cup of tea and know that the sun will make an appearance soon.
Next week i'll finish the Beatles in Mono Box set. the only 3 left are MMT, White album and Mono Masters. That's a big slab of mono follow me on instagram for picures (shameless plug)
Like Hodgo I've been working my way through the Stones in mono both UK and US albums. Also a particular favourite of mine in mono is this:
My aged eyes can't read the text but if recall correctly, isn't that Jimmy James and the Vagabonds? A friend of mine had that back when I was in school, from what I remember it was a great album.
the new Idles album ULTRA MONO has a special edition which is mixed and mastered in true mono, clear vinyl. I think it's sold out now, album comes out mid September.
I'm not sure about that. I've heard a really great needle-drop of an American Mono pressing, and the French copy I have sounds similar to my memory of the American one. It was too long ago to make an honest comparison in my mind now though...
A MONO album that I often listen to and still enjoy is "WINGS" self-titled album on Dunhill (circa 1968 and no relation to Paul's band, outside of the same name which Paul actually "bought" from Oz Bach ("Wings founding member and former member of "Spanky & Our Gang"). This pressing was a specially mastered promo mono version for radio airplay, but the album was only released in stereo commercially. (NOTE: Beware if you search for this album in MONO, as there is also a promo STEREO version out there. The rare and specially mastered promo MONO LP is a blue label, while the regular STEREO promo is a white label promo.) wings dunhill | Craig Moerer Records By Mail Sadly, none of the songs from this album in MONO can be found on the web, as well as few of the STEREO versions of the songs for that matter from this overlooked nice slice of '60's sunshine. With that said, the sound blows on the following, but at least you can hear what this WINGS was about.
Playing now on Sundazed vinyl with the UK cover, which in the USA was blanked out with a white text filled box, in the UK however, the offending toilet was intact.....
Side One of this album from "Monday, Monday" through "I Call Your Name" is about as great as these guys ever recorded!
