To be honest, I've never been all that crazy about their cover of "Do You Wanna Dance" and for "Go Where You Wanna Go", I have to go for The 5th Dimension's version, which also features the same great Wrecking Crew doing that thing they do!
That's interesting. I'd been wondering if a contemporary band might put out a mono mix. Anyone know of any others?
Yes, I hear what you're saying there. I'll listen to it with different expectations next time. Maybe start off with some 50s blues and see if that approach helps me to appreciate the mono BOB mix more. Cheers
Side 1 had Jimmy James and the Vagabonds and Side 2 had The Alan Bown Set as they were then known. Recorded in September 1966 at London's Marquee Club. Not an "audiophile" recording bearing in mind that it was recorded live in a small sweaty club, but the energy is awesome.
That's how I remember it, sound quality similar to the Five Live Yardbirds, both full of energy and despite the SQ great albums nonetheless.
I'm rounding the day off with another West End Musical soundtrack, this time from Leslie Bricusse and the Great Anthony Newly......
Had a little dance around my music room with my 7 yr old and her friend to mono Magical Mystery Tour today. Kids can't get enough of I Am The Walrus and Hello Goodbye. Nor can I.
Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings Give the People Want They Want I have this version and the stereo LP as well. Also, the last few James Hunter Six albums have been mixed in mono. Glorious, rich, hi-fi mono.
Rolling Stones first 3 albums. Is it me or does much of the second album (stand up down home girl and pain in my heart) take a significant dip in SQ compared to the first album??
Great, thanks! I don't know either of these artists, I'll go and have a listen. [Edit: oh, I'm liking James Hunter Six a lot. This is getting ordered.]
It's not just you! Rolling Stones No.2 and Out of Our Heads have very patchy sound quality, but it suits the music so I don't mind. The stuff recorded at Chess around that time sounds great.
Jan and Dean " Drag City " Charles Mingus " The Clown" Both have been played in the last week, both amazing in their own way!
this thread got my mono vibe going. yesterday and today(no pun intended) i heard: john mayall and blues breakers - crusade sundazed mono jefferson airplane -surrealistic pillow sundazed mono beatles - magical mystery tour mono 2014 reissue (same as posted above) and i just ordered john mayall and the bluesbreakers - a hard road sundzaed mono. for 30$ i remmeber i wanted to like the album because of peter green but i felt green only sang on 2 tracks and didnt really solo much was my memory. however i sampled it yesterday and changed my mind and decided to add it to my collection.
I feel lucky to have these two original mono Bob Dylan LP's. I listened to both today and wow...just wow! The BIABH is 1A/1A...magical.
I have four copies of the original mono Blonde on Blonde - three have extreme ring wear on the cover. The one that doesn't has someone's initials scrawled across the top. But the vinyl is fantastic. There is mono and there is MONO. This is MONO.
