Then you weren’t that absorbed in the story. That’s how I read the quote. If you are really into a movie, you are sad that it ended so quickly. That’s the way I take it at least. It is a generalization though, I agree. This is why people crave extended editions or directors cuts of the their favorite films. An extra 20 minutes or so added on is enjoyed

I usually bail on it after the intermission. Once the biblical epic backdrop of the Civil War (and the resulting götterdämmerung) fades from the narrative, it becomes little more than a Reconstruction-era Peyton Place (IMHO).

I like the movie. But I will say, that first scene in the restaurant is insufferable.

"Pearl Harbor"...it was on cable back when we had cable, and I thought, against better thinking, that I would watch to at least see the effects scenes. The numbingly horrible dialogue and directing in the first 15mins or so made me stop right there.

The remake of "Rollerball"...I must have spent about 15-20mins on it, scanning through. Going in, I knew of its production history, but even then, it was so awful on every level that there was no way...

"Mank" has been mentioned, and I am trying that one in little chunks, every time feeling like I want to stop entirely. The smug, all-surface-flawless re-creation of the period is horribly grating. Even Gary Oldman, who I greatly enjoy in other things, isn't enough.

It's super clever-clever - no way these low-lifes would actually talk and act like that - but it works!

I’m on a bad luck streak withTommy Lee Jones films.
Three I turned off less than 10 minutes into it. Can only recall the name of one- Lincoln.
    That beginning was audaciously bad.
One TLJ movie I did stick out to the end and I was sorry I did. The one where he investigates the death of his son in the armed forces.

another of his films with Meryl Streep they are a couple trying to rekindle their love. It had some good scenes but the ending..... well I’ll just leave it at that.

i gave up on any more Tommy Lee Jones films.

watching lots of Jean Arthur. Great stuff there !

Maximum Overdrive (1986). it was a "sleeper hit" to me, because it gave me the best sleep I ever had later in the film!

Excellent description. I was irritated as heck at the beginning - might have walked out if I wasn't at a theater with friends. It does get better as the movie goes on.

    • Crazy Rich Asians
    • Set It Up - a Netflix film getting 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. The first five minutes is a series of exaggerated, ridiculous "bad boss" cliches. I bailed.
    • Outside In - 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. Ex-con develops a crush on his former high school teacher who helped him get released from prison. Might've been good, but I was so uncomfortable from the premise, I shut it off.

To be fair it was probably down to me not being in the right mood for it rather than it being a bad film. Might have to give it another go

Author of ' Interview ...' Anne Rice blew a gasket when she found out. Cruise would be playing Lestat in the film adaptation of her book. But she later recanted.
    Whatever...the movie is dull.

Can't go wrong with Jean Arthur. Everything I've watched recently with her has been excellent too!

Admittedly it's not high art, but ages ago I rented the VHS of Microwave Massacre, knowing it would be bad but worth a watch. I couldn't make it through 20 minutes before I rewound it ("Be Kind- Rewind!") and returned it to the store.

I don't know- it's a so-so movie for me. There are a lot more bad movies out there but it's not great.
