For me 64-65 was the best. Not early rock and not psychellic, but that perfect folk rock pop

Although I love all the Beatles eras, PPM and WTB are the greatest for me. Also the Hamburg years.

If the question had been asked in the 1980s, the answer would have been the Sgt Pepper era. Now the most popular is the Revolver era. This is probably due to Oasis.

I always think of the period ‘66-‘70 as my favourite but whenever I slip on the red album it does things to this man.

They *were* rather good weren’t they.

I have to ask if you had a hard time breaking it up into periods because so much of what they did in one phase was a huge reflection on what had just come prior making ALL of it important. Of course I have to go with the posters who pretty much said "all of it" in one way or another. But if I have to choose a personal favorite period it has to be 1966-1968. While yes, I love the stuff beforehand, there's an advanced level of creative "magic" that takes place on Revolver and both sides of the surrounding 45 of that time. But I can't "leave" it there because because the final track on Revolver ajars the door to a room of even higher advancement with SFF and basically, all of 1967. Within the first quarter of '68 they decide to slam that door shut, not look back, and decide to go somewhat in reverse but in a modern day version resulting in The White Album. Simply an incredible period of progression leading to totally contrived, intentional regression but in a way that made going backwards sound new and fresh.

Shouldn't it be '67 to '68? Why does '67 only encompass one year when everyone else has two (and the last three). Anyway, still, I pick '67. Sgt. Pepper is my favourite album ever and I'm a sucker for psychedelia (and they did it the best I've heard) so yeah. Easy pick.

All great. Best is probably 65-66 as they revolutionized what a two guitar, bass and drums could be.

but, I listen more to WA, LIB, AR and attendant singles. I think it’s an age thing. I’m a US Blue album kid ( received as a gift in 1973).

And! Sometimes when I get into a full-blown Beatles thing that's all I'll play for days.

All of them. The Beatles mastered both the live in the studio context and the more arranged. I think their early period is the most unique, because it is harder to do. It's not that many great albums recorded that way, in jazz maybe but not in pop and rock. Sgt. Pepper is the norm, not With the Beatles.

Easy answer: 1968-1970: WA, YS, AR & LIB, by far.

But you cannot go wrong with owning everything - like I do.

    63-64 - Beatlemania & straight up rock & roll.

65-66 - rock, folk rock with some psychedelic rock as well like Tomorrow Never Knows. A new maturity to the songs.

67 - The Beatles do psychedelic rock and take it to new heights.

1968-1970 - Post-India Beatles with a focus on getting back to rock and roll but also experimenting as well.

I hope this helps to clarify my groupings.

For me, '65 - '66 was their peak as a unit. Each of the members was contributing top quality material and they were working together fruitfully, bringing out the best in each other. They were just beginning to cross over into psychedelia without becoming overly reliant on production hocus pocus. Later efforts like The White Album are impressive but it sounds sound more like a collection of solo recordings.

I don’t hear even a hint of folk in ‘66.
