I love all these bands and as someone said before Steely Dan doesn’t really fit in with the other 3.

Normally it would be the Allman Bros but the Dan is a whole ’nother level of perfection and grace.

Nothing wrong with this topic, but it's like picking among your children.
I'm probably a little less a Dan fan than a lot of other people, but I really enjoy and respect their stuff.
Feat was the band I proselytized about in the 70s, huge fan.
The Allman's are killer. They did no wrong for a stretch, simply incendiary.
And The Band was wonderful as well, so this is all A-1, 1-A, A+, A++ stuff.

The Dan, by a sizable margin; Allmans second.

Steely Dan all the way for this guy :). Distant second would be "The Band" with the others far behind :hide:

I don’t listen to any of the 4 now, but in the past Allman Bros, then Steely Dan second. I’ve only minimally ever listened to Little Feat

I love Steely Dan and what bits of the ABB catalogue I’ve heard, I’ve enjoyed without ever feeling the urge to investigate further. After hearing The Weight, I really wanted to like The Band but the rest of Music From The Big Pink left me cold. Little Feat, though, are one of those bands I just don’t get. I’ve heard a reasonable amount of their stuff, and I know people really rate them, but when I listen, there’s just nothing there to lift them above the hundreds of other acts ploughing the same furrow. I’m sure they’re competent enough but, whatever it is their fans are hearing, it’s not there for me.

Damn. This is a tough one.
Little Feat and the Band are basically a tie and on some days I’d throw the ABB into that spot, too.

Three of my all time faves for sure.

Had I been asked 25 years ago it would have went like this...

    1. The Band
    2. The Allman Bros.
    3. Steely Dan
    4. Little Feat

Today, my list would look like this...

    1. Steely Dan
    2. The Band
    3. The Allman Bros
    4. Little Feat

The changes in position aren't as a result of anything they've done in the last quarter century, but instead just a re-evaluation of their work as it related to my changing musical tastes. In the early 90's I'd just discovered The Band's first two albums & knew Steely Dan only for their radio hits. Subsequently, I began to move away somewhat from The Band's rural sensibilities. A chance listen to Aja a few years ago knocked me for a loop & made me a true believer as far a S.D. was concerned!

I regret to admit that I've never really gotten into Little Feat at all.

Steely Dan is so played out. I would be ok with never hearing them again.

And its close but I enjoy all of these bands. But the Dan I have the nearly complete discography counting the Solo stuff.

I can always plug in a Dan song but I have to be in the mood for the rest of them.

I dunno...they do come over and play occasionally, but they're not in the big halls that they where when they recorded Waiting For Columbus. They play to 200-500 places now.

You and I know them (and Richie Hayward was one of my favourite drummers), but even in the Mojo-reader rock-fan demographic that would be aware of the other three even in passing, I don't think you'd find a huge amount of people who know Little Feat. Doesn't mean they're no good, but just that they haven't maintained their legacy.

Example - when The Doobies did their band intros last year and got to Bill Payne, I don't recall the crowd giving him a bigger cheer than anyone else because he was in Little Feat...
