For the life of me, I don't understand the Springsteen choice. First of all that's a 7 album run. And It's not even his best 7 album run. I would have skipped Greeting from... and extended the list to Tunnel of Love. The best 5 album run is Born to Run - Born in the USA.
Nice choice, but I'm not big into their first two, so Empires to Sparkle is the perfect 5. My personal fave period from my fave band is: Construction Time Again Some Great Reward Black Celebration Music for the Masses Violator
AFAIC, Steely Dan's classic run through Aja beats them all. Also noteworthy, ZZ Top. There are many runs of 5+ excellent albums from jazz artists, but I won't go there.
My 6 album run for would be slightly different for The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night to Revolver. The Stones - The Rolling Stones to Between The Buttons.
I picked the Beatles and Rolling Stones from the list along with "other": Rush - Farewell to Kings - Signals Tangerine Dream - Alpha Centauri - Rubycon The Sword - Age of Winters - Used Future
As it’s the great man’s birthday, John Coltrane: Coltrane Blue Train John Coltrane with the Red Garland Trio Soultrane Kenny Burrell & John Coltrane Giants Steps Coltrane Jazz My Favourite Things Africa/Brass Olé Coltrane Live at The Village Vanguard Coltrane Duke Ellington & John Coltrane Ballads Impressions John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman Live at Birdland Coltrane’s Sound Crescent A Love Supreme Plus more from his “later” period. Puts the poll choices to shame
Definitely! If you've not any of Deke's books, I'd highly recommend them. He's the Bill Bryson of Rock and Roll!
Traffic: Mr. Fantasy > Low Spark Aimee Mann; Whatever > The Forgotten Arm Zappa : The Grand Wazoo> One Size Fits All Little Feat: Sailin Shows> Time Loves a Hero
The Beatles run of 5 is exceptional. In addition I would add: Jackson Browne - For Everyman; Late for the Sky; The Pretender; Running on Empty and Hold Out Monkees - More of the Monkees; Headquarters; Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn and Jones, LTD; Birds, Bees, Monkees and Head
Steely Dan - Can't Buy A Thrill to Aja ELO - Electric Light Orchestra to Out Of The Blue Thin Lizzy - Nightlife to Live And Dangerous Bob Seger - Smokin' OPs to Against The Wind
well since the kinks from that time period ( through 1976) are my favorite band of all i have to go with them.
That was my 'Other' alongside Bowie, Elton and the Fabs. Damn you U2 for releasing the patchy Rattle & Hum... (War -> Achtung Baby)
Husker Du Zen Arcade (1984) New Day Rising (1985) Flip Your Wig (1985) Candy Apple Grey (1986) Warehouse: Songs and Stories (1987)
It is a great album, but I didn't include it because Van released Hard Nose the Highway (although it's not a bad album) in between Saint Dominic's and Veedon Fleece. He also released It's Too Late to Stop Now in between them as well, a fantastic live album.
Springsteen REM: Murmur to Automatic for the People Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon to The Wall Steve Earle: Train a-Comin' to The Revolution Starts Now Genesis: Nursery Cryme to And Then There Were Three
