"Sally Go Round the Roses" creeped me out when I was a kid...and it still does.

Well she's a roller skating child
With a ribbon in her hair
She gets my heart to beating
    When I see her there
You know my heart starts smiling when she sings
She's such an angel I bet she's got wings

And we'll make sweet lovin' when the sun goes down
We'll even do more when your mama's not around
Well oh my oh gosh oh gee
She really send chills inside of me

They've got a record playing in the skatin' rink
She comes skatin' past me and she gives me a wink
I go and get my skates on and I catch up with her
We do it holdin' hands it's so cold I go "brrr"

And we'll make sweet lovin' when the sun goes down
We'll even do more when her mama's not around
Well oh my oh gosh oh gee
She really send chills inside of me

Round and around and around we go
The music keeps me on my feet
It's sweet it's sweet it's sweeter than honey
When we're walkin' down the street
    (That's right)

We run in to the kitchen and we grab a bite
Her folks let me stay with her 'til late at night
So many guys want a girl like mine
A love like this happens only one time

And we'll make sweet lovin' when the sun goes down
We'll even do more when her mama's not around
Well oh my oh gosh oh gee
She really send chills inside of me

"The creeps"/"creepy" is a very positive aesthetic mode to me.

At any rate, one example, aided by its infamous usage in an infamous film--The Doors - "The End" (the film being Apocalypse Now, of course):

I've been a huge Danny Kirwan fan since 1972 and just discovered this song a few years ago...it's one of my absolute faves of all time. I don't see it as creepy at all...just stone beautiful!

Nico's "You Forget To Answer." It was apparently written for her ex Jim Morrison, who she tried to call in France, only to learn he'd died.

I head this on a college radio station late at night when I was 16. Freaked me out. I assumed it was a German man from the 1940s singing. Could not figure out who did it. Haunted me for decades. Even though I would become a big Velvets fan, I never looked much into solo Nico. 30 years later I read a description of the song that mentioned Morrison and I knew this was the song I'd heard that night.

This may not count since nobody knows who the artist was, but "Peace of Mind/The Candle Burns" that appeared on lots of Beatles bootlegs always have me a very creepy vibe.

    "Vegetable Man" by Pink Floyd
    "Green Manalishi" by Fleetwood Mac

Of course, before hearing both songs for the first time, I was aware that the singers were actually losing their minds. Nothing by Tom Waits creeps me out, because I know it's all an act... he's one of the sanest individuals alive.

Oh, and anything by solo Nico creeps me out, whether she was sane or not. I still love it, of course.

Do you mean that music doesn't creep you out because it's art, or that art (as in visual art) creeps you out, not music?

Fair question: I mean that music doesn't creep you out because it's art. In fact, I am truly moved by Green Manalishi, but certainly not creeped out.

Manalishi moves me, too, but for the very reason that it's obviously born of intense personal pain... no one could replicate that performance. I do find the howling noises at the end unsettling, but enjoy it as art at the same time. Creepiness doesn't have to be a turn-off... ask any horror movie fan.

I'm going with "D.O.A." by Bloodrock...on the basis that both pop radio stations in my small home town, made an executive decision to play it on-air, during the heightened anxieties of a country already divided over the Viet Nam War.

"Winter" by TV on The Radio. Pretty grunge, pretty massive. This is my confession, yeah!

I liked that. I can’t remember what album that is on though. Kirwain and Welch on guitars, right?

Pretty sure it was a single with Kirwan only - the clip has Welch though.

Isn’t that a remake of a tune he did with Jane Birkin? Being that was Charlotte’s mom, it makes it more palpable.
