The Sound of ... is great in hi-res. The Real Gone CD is good.

Whelp, I got the Friday Music release, seeing as how Kevin Gray's name is on it. Should have it in a couple of weeks.

I'll be sure to update the thread with my thoughts since I've also ordered the Real Gone Music release. It'll be interesting to hear the difference between the two when comparing the same tracks. :)

Damn I didn't see this until today. I ordered Best of Wilson Pickett UK 1967 mono version from discogs. I would have preferred to have the Keven Gray version ... didn't see it was reissued.

    So how does it sound?

Honestly, the sound of both didn't exactly excite me. It's terrific music that wasn't unfortunately terrifically recorded. Because of this, the differences from one pressing to the other weren't noticeable enough for me to warrant keeping the relatively expensive LP.

Hey thanks for getting back to me. I guess my UK version on order will do for now.

I'm pretty tuned into that 1965-7 sound so my ears might be a bit more forgiving than yours. I love the song selection as far as his early material ... just wish it had "I'm In Love" ... such a great tune.

Someone gave me a slightly beat up LP copy of this and I'd like to get a good sounding CD of it, or something comparable that avoids Hey Jude and Sugar Sugar.

Yeah, I played it recently and loved it every second of it. This set has given me so much enjoyment from day one, the songs and performances are fabulous and the SQ is just top notch.

They did indeed release fabulous, well thought out complilations, quite a few of which are in my collection and are constantly playing in my home.

I started a thread way back when so if anyone has any additions to add, please head over there and post about them so that I can add some more to my collection.

Recently sold the Real Gone Music release as well. The way these songs were recorded just isn't conducive to an audiophile experience, IMHO. Unless a bad source was used or limiting was heavily used, it'll still be serviceable.

Only when they're out of print. I bought Edsel's twofer of In Philadelphia + Don't Knock My Love a year ago with no problems. I already owned the Funky Midnight Mover box set but that didn't have "Un' Avventura." And for those who don't have the box set, the Edsel releases include many of the set's rare outtakes. For example, In Philadelphia + Don't Knock My Love contains the absolutely superb bonus tracks "Rock Of Ages" and "Many Roads To Travel," which are among the best records Pickett ever cut.

    Nope, you're good to go.
