White label promo cutting

    Sometimes they play quieter because the stampers are new and clean or better vinyl was used.

    I received many many "Demo" records and WLPs and they were the same pressing in most instances - and they were received by the record company on the same day just different labeling and they sound exactly the same.

    I worked for CBS Records and had friends who worked at other labels in the PR/AR divisions and they supplied me with LPs.

    Before joining this forum I never looked at WLPs as being anything more than collectors items. Sound quality wasn't really a consideration and it was the same way with most collectors I knew. I still look at them as collectors items actually. I do buy them, as I like having them though :)

    I think wlp's are more 'fun' to play. And fun is good. Therefore.... they tend to sound better.
