Personally I don't care what kind of accolades albums get. I'd rather have a good/solid album that gets passed over by RS/The Grammys than to have a Grammy award winning album that sucks. I have a pretty extensive music collection and I couldn't tell you what albums I have/like that have won Grammys or have received good RS reviews.
Ok, listening to it now, and on first run, it’s the best thing they’ve done since “The Who By Numbers.” The band - ie Townshend’s guitars and Daltrey’s voice - are in fine form and for once, the songs have a nice shape and bite to them. Zack’s drumming is athletic and the rest of the backup is fine, aided by Townshend’s electronica. Havent found a clear classic like I Can See For Miles or Won’t Get Fooled Again, but that’s all on one listen. The best thing is I didnt get bored or distracted by any track - which afflicted pretty much everything new they had shelled out since the late 70s. Impressive for two old gits.
Called my local Target, they have 8 copies in stock for sale tomorrow morning. Decide to nix the Japan cd .
Just finishing my first listen and I am quite pleased! And yes, Got Nothing to Prove echoes James Bond
Live in 10 minutes on Qobuz US...available for streaming, and presumably download. I will report back.
Check your Targets. I have reports that in parts (like MA) Targets are saying they won't have the LP on time. What is also bad is that in the weekly ad they give Liam Payne? big ad space and none to The Who. (its only a Target exclusive!)
I might nix mine as well. If my target has it and if my Japanese doesn’t come Tomorrow. This will mean no Sand.
Sand will show up on YouTube. It's a strong track, I shouldn't say this, but after listening to the 15 samples. Based upon what I heard, it's my favorite track.
RS? The review isn't too bad. The title of the review is odd. With a New Self-Titled Album, the Who Have Made Classic Rock Comfort Food I'm just glad it's not classic Hip Hop comfort food.
What’s “ break the news” remind anyone of ? I feel like I’ve heard it a million times before but can’t put my finger on it. peace and love✌Dave
The PRINT Rolling Stone ran a completely different review, one literally just a couple of sentences long.....given that (don't bust my chops ya'all) I still pay, and a LOT, for a print subscription, and thus rarely if ever go to the website....this makes me mad! Possibly subscription-cancelling mad!
