Not necessarily… but some of the best black soul singers sure could rock!

Honorable mention: "I can't tell you why" by the eagles. Who sings that one? Don't really like the eagles but that's one of the best songs ever.

Cory Wells. If you know anything about his background, it makes sense.

Well to be fair, most of the rockers they listed aren't really soul singers. They just happen to have done a soully type of song here or there or maybe a few verses. :)

Stevie Wonder says his favorite singer is Glen Hughes. Nobody in rock sings with as much emotion as Glen.

Johnny Maestro of The Brooklyn Bridge.

    From Wikipedia:
New York City-born Johnny Maestro (born John Mastrangelo aka Johnny Mastro, Johnny Masters; May 7, 1939 – March 24, 2010) began his career in 1957 as the original lead singer of The Crests, one of the first interracial groups of the recording industry. Patricia Van Dross, older sister to famed R&B singer Luther Vandross, sang with Johnny Maestro while The Crests were signed to the Joyce Record label.

Of course, Johnny went on to do more of his own thing with The Brooklyn Bridge... but with those roots, he never lost his soul. Still a favorite of mine to this day, may he rest in peace.
