Different take on underrated... No one could IMO come up with sufficient accolades for Jimi. Hence, underrated. David Gilmour could squeeze more out of a note than anyone but never is in the Hendrix/Paige discussion. Ditto for Jeff Beck (wow). Ditto again for Blooomfield, gone too soon. My take is the most underrated are the ones who could go up with anyone yet somehow seem to be left out of the discussion.
I see a lot of well known names here, I guess underrated is a relative term. Chrissie Hynde had a guy from 93-07, Adam Seymour. That guy played rock''n'roll guitar, from the gut like no other I've seen.
Leo Kottke, mostly because even most music fans have never heard him, though he's highly respected by other players. I'd say the same is true of many great guitarists who don't have "hit" recordings or get played on the radio.
