Looking back, it would be Elvis when he first blazed onto the scene, up until he joined the army

In his prime, no one was cooler than Jim Morrison. It's a shame, his prime didn't last long... :shake:

Too many to name. One which comes to mind is overlooked first generation rock artist Jack Scott, who has remained active as a performer and recording artist. Berry Gordy of Motown Records mentioned that it was Scott who kick-started the music scene in Detroit. Scott charted nineteen singles, most of them self-penned. In early 1957, Scott brought his band to United Sound, the only studio in Detroit (they knew of) and recorded two of original compositions with 'Baby She’s Gone' and 'You Can Bet Your Bottom Dollar.' Scott went on to earn record deals with the labels Capitol, Carlton, Top Rank, Dot, GRT and ABC Paramount. After Scott's Capitol contract was completed, Berry Gordy approached him in 1963 about recording for Motown. Instead, Scott signed with producer Chet Atkins at RCA Victor, which was probably a big mistake in hindsight.

I am pretty sure that not for a second would he consider himself a "rock star" but Nick Lowe is one really cool guy in both his performing and his demeanour.

Well, Animal has always seemed a bit too out of control to be considered "cool" in the strictest sense, but I did indeed consider him as well.

Inspired, to quote Janice: "fer sure!" :D

Of course, I've also long thought the Mahna Mahna guy was based on Leon Russell (who could additionally get my vote for coolest rock star!):
