    Yes.
A multi-instrumentalist, Jim first studied piano and voice with his father, a music teacher, picking up drums by his early teens. At 14 years-old he founded the Sapphires as the band's lead vocalist.
His career works credit him on vocals, drums, percussion, guitar, and keyboards.

Nat's a fine call for this one, and a choice that sooner or later leads one to consider Oscar Peterson as well: known for having a vocal tone and phrasing that was very Nat-like, on those occasions when he piped up behind a mic (although if you're comparing the lesser celebrated ability of each, then Cole's a better pianist than Peterson is a singer).

Many great ones have been mentioned. As an honorable mention, I'd include Marcia Ball.

Have a great story about Aretha. Seen her at Artpark in Lewiston, NY about 6 years ago. When she spoke to the crowd between songs, she told us that she'd lived in Buffalo for a few years as a young girl. Until then, that came as news.

In the review the next day, mention was made of one of her previous visits to the city. She was dining ar EB Green's. (Always in Tom Horan's Top 10 Best Steakhouses...and a personal favorite!). They always featured a singing piano player, named Jackie Jacko.

One night, a patron walked up to Mr. Jocko, and introduced herself. "I'm Aretha Franklin." He said, you certainly are!" Then he got up to allow her to play.

have to add Robert Lamm when he was playing keyboards and Marcia Ball. I think Elaine Elias has really improved her singing, playing was always top tier.

Again. It's a joke. I was just replying his post and not the question. I already did that earlier.

    Acoustic/Electric Piano

"But you should definitely buy an Accoustic before you graduate to an Electric."

And Professor Longhair/Keith Emerson are def. good artists to represent those terms.

Without Charles Brown, Ray Charles would have never existed.

And Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone.

Then I might throw in Bowie and Peter Hammill for variety, although Hammill played more piano than Bowie.

Technically i think Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder are the most superior. Elton John is the most well versed (he can do classical) and then Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard are just pure unfiltered boogie woogie.
