HatB just did 2 shows at Madison Square Garden and their current tour regularly plays good-sized sheds.

As I said earlier: don't underestimate the appeal on 90s nostalgia!

You're saying Kansas is only playing small clubs outside the US? Their website tells me they've got a healthy schedule of US theater gigs.

Please send me a list of artists you love and I'll be sure to update you! :D

I only know HatB toured because I looked in response to this thread. I don't like 'em so I was unaware of this tour!

I’d welcome GFR show, with Mark Farner. But that won’t happen anytime soon. Neither will a Fab Four show.

My 5 year old has just discovered Kiss (albeit an animated version) thanks to a Scooby Doo episode. He thinks they’re great and has a new fave song of Detroit Rock City. Their image, whatever one may think, is too strong to be forgotten.

“But daddy, what is that man doing with his tongue?”

It should be pointed out that tickets to The Beatles 1965 Shea Stadium concert were ONLY sold through the mail. So one had to mail in your check or money order and then you would get tickets sent back in the mail (if available). So of course this took a few weeks to sell out.

Grand Funk was sold at the box office and other locations that had computerized systems, so it sold out in a quicker amount of time.

Warrant played in a small bar in my area over a decade ago drawing roughly 200 people. So yes largely forgotten about is pretty accurate.

Whether or not the “James Gang” name is well known, Joe Walsh remains active and he is certainly well known. If nothing else, (The) Eagles keep touring and drawing crowds.

Songs like “Funk #49” and “Walk Away” still get played. I’d guess most people just know them as “Joe Walsh songs.”

The people who filled the arenas he’s been playing the past couple of years probably have recently. Or at least his Greatest Hits, which over nine million people have bought:

Greatest Hits (Bob Seger album) - Wikipedia

I’ve never bought an album of his, but plenty have. I’ve heard him so much over the years I never felt the need to. Can’t listen to a classic rock station without hearing him every couple of hours. I got tired of the repetition of radio too, but he’s in no danger of being forgotten.

Sure, but so did a lot of popular artists in the music video age. ZZ Top? Ric Ocasek? Plenty of not-too-attractive artists who did just fine.

And it's not like people didn't know what Cross looked like when he was a star. No, he didn't have videos to push his puss to the masses, but even as a kid back then, I knew what he looked like - and I wasn't even a fan!

Cross went 4 years between albums - an eternity back then. He had one single between albums but that was it, and that's a long time for an artist to remain largely dormant, especially one without an established track record.

Even though "Another Page" came out firmly in the music video era, it still did fairly well. The album hit #11 and went gold, and it also had two top 12 singles.

It wasn't as successful as the debut, but it didn't flop. By general standards, it was a moderate hit.

Cross fell off the face of the earth with his 3rd album in 1985 - that one flopped.

Not every successful artist sustains that success. Some are destined for a brief period of popularity and that's it, without some nefarious reason for the change.

IMO, Cross didn't fade because he was homely - he faded simply because people were less interested in his music.

    It happens!

Yeah... I had no idea they’d regrouped (and cashed in) on 90s nostalgia. Saw an ad at a bar for a shuttle bus to see them at Alpine Valley this summer. Don’t know how many people they drew, but they somehow went from punchline to playing a shed that holds 30,000.

Wonder if Blues Traveler and Spin Doctors opened?
