I was just thinking about her so I did a search and found this Merv Griffin promo from 1969 - for which she apparently won a Clio award, btw If you don't know who Miss Miller was here's an article on her. Lillian Miller, Professional Audience Member and here is her wiki page Lillian Miller - Wikipedia
Don't remember the '60s, but in reading about the period I've always presumed that the audience member was also the woman who cut records. But apparently they were two different people: Mrs. Miller - Wikipedia Merv Griffin has a lot to answer for
I certainly remember her. In every New York TV audience, probably going back before Steve Allen’s Tonight show stint. She was often acknowledged as being there. Eventually she was so well known she was called up to do jokes on stage (which was funny because she wasn’t) and cut an album!
I remember Merv speaking to her from the stage on his TV show back in the '70s. I didn't know who she was.
I immediately thought of Mrs. Miller, but we're evidently talking (inadvertently) about two different people. Per Miss Miller's Wiki page "Miss Miller" redirects here. She is not to be confused with Mrs. Miller, a 1960s singer.
I remember seeing her in the 60s in The Merv Griffin audience when he pointed her out. She would wave when the camera was on her. He said she was always in his audience.
Was Julie Christie’s character in McCabe & Mrs. Miller married? And, if not, why was she Mrs. rather than Miss?
She was like the William Hung of the 1960s. Her singing was horrible, but it somehow worked and people got a kick out of it. I remember her "Downtown" being played on the radio and everyone would laugh and get a kick out of it.
I mostly remember her from when Carol Burnett would mention her. Merv too but I mostly associate her with Carol.
I saw her on TV in Johnny Carson's audience quite a few times in the '60's. Johnny always loved to point her out.
I haven't seen M&MM in decades, but I got the idea that Mrs M was a widow whose husband had died violently, probably in a fight over her
