Noel Coward introducing Marlene Dietrich, with the orchestra conducted by Burt Bacharach was the first glam rock gig.

    This.

I've never been convinced one way or the other. It seems its really a fashion movement, but I dont know.

Music categories are often tangled and inconclusive.

I believe that would be more in the "shock rock" genre.

I guess you are right, there is nothing glamorous about Arthur Brown. But his shows were rumored to have been pretty wild!

I guess it was in the air, "Armenia City In The Sky" (1967) sounds surprisingly "glammy", Jagger had painted his face by the late 60's, "Space Oddity" was set in a silvery, phallic object (a rocket;)) so...

....all it took was to guys (Bowie and Bolan) trying to outglam each other;)

Yeah, it's not glam. Actually, "Desdemona" Bolan wrote during his brief stint with John's Children prior to Tyrannosaurus Rex is much closer to his T. Rex sound than the acoustic stuff with Peregrin Took.

I agree with the poster who put up the "Easy Action" photo.

    Alice Cooper (first two albums)
pre-date where Bolin and Bowie were at at the time.

Alice Cooper got the vibe a tad earlier.

There were plenty of artists who used their flamboyance to gain attention...
but Bolan started the actual Glam movement in the UK.

I think Vince Taylor might be another candidate to consider. David Bowie had publicly stated that Taylor was the inspiration for Ziggy Stardust.
