Thinking again more of the musical style rather than the look, I'd take into account Wild Tiger Woman and Curly, released as singles by the Move when Bolan was still into Psych Folk.

In a twist of irony, Mott the Hoople were going to be dropped from their label if they didn't quickly produce another hit record. David Bowie came to their rescue and wrote All the Young Dudes for them which became the archetype Glam song.

You forget John's Children. "Desdemona" was pretty much the bridge between 60s mod freakbeat and early 70s glitter/glam rock (in 1967, no less).

Desdemona was released in 1967 in Britain but did not chart, because it was banned by the BBC for the lyrics "lift up your skirt and fly".

Little Richard was a lot more in-your-face rock and glam than Arthur Brown or even Roxy Music

On 22 February 1970 David Bowie took to the stage with The Hype to perform what is widely accepted to be the first Glam Rock performance. The Hype represents a turning point in David Bowie’s career; a hugely significant step away from being a one-hit wonder – with 1969’s Space Oddity – to finding the formula for enduring success. The Hype, comprising John Cambridge on drums, Tony Visconti on bass and Mick Ronson on guitar was the progenitor of The Spiders from Mars; the band that made David Bowie and helped to define popular culture in the 1970s.

True, but I was replying to the post about The Move's proto-glam singles Wild Tiger Woman
and Curly which also both 'stiffed' on the U.K. charts as well if my memory serve me.

On board with the Little Richard answer. Massive influence on the NY Dolls.
