Why aren't there more knockout Neil Young cover songs?

Not to mention bands that totally ripped off his sound, or Crazy Horse's sound in places :

(Okay, they did collaborate with him the year prior but this song is without Neil/Crazy Horse).

Or Dinosaur Jr. People praise Jay Mascis' guitar playing but at the same time I always hear samey songs with a Neil Young type guitar sound/solo every time.

All these covers show how, at the core, these are just fantastic songs that work in different arrangements!

Jay Farrar backed by Canyon does a fantastic version of Like a Hurricane. Here's Lucifer Sam segueing into Hurricane at the 5:40 mark:

The Waco Brothers did a great version of Revolution Blues. Unfortunately their studio version is not on youtube.

Golden Smog did a lot of Neil covers live, as did Minus 5.

Eric Ambel also did Revolution Blues and Vampire Blues

I absolutely cannot believe there hasn't been a single mention of The Flaming Lips' blistering take on "After The Gold Rush." For shame.

It's been 48 yrs since I heard this! It went Top 30 in Boston. Couldn't believe they got a local hit with it since Neil's version was played all the time on FM prog radio the previous year. It's a decent cover but not a killer.

Wow, Matthew Sweet has been mentioned twice and nobody listed his best Neil cover:

My favorite obscuro Neil cover is Velvet Crush's cover of "Prisoners of Rock & Roll". Sadly, no official release, I've only heard it on a live b**t.

I've come to really like Neil's version of that song. Buried on a really bad album.

You think "Life" is a bad album?
