I think what happened was that Todd and I, being clever folk that we are, sort of "crapped" on the "thread crapper," with some silly comments about the "Steve-God" referred to by the aforementioned "crapper." I guess that makes Todd and me the "crappees," as it were.

I think this thread should be archived. ;)
As a testament of what can happen when there are no "Who's Next" threads going on.

Oh god that Who's Next thread went on forever. I think everyone posted on that. We should have a top 10 of the most memorable threads (the good and bad).

So I am waiting to hear who won the HC sweepstakes? Did anyone actually go to Sounds on St Marks in NYC to see if the store clerk was just asleep and was selling the disc for, oh say $8.99.

I'm curious too. A lot of record stores fly such incredible scores on eBay and get more than their money back. I'll be sad if it's on eBay, sorta... :(

Ok I went to Sounds yesterday. Could not resist. Someone had to take one for the team. ;)
First off, I took my son in the stroller - they must be the only store in NY that will not allow strollers - so I had to carry my 22 pound son in my right arm and flip cd's with my left hand.
So I went through the used E's and saw nothing. Went through the F's and D's just in case it was "misplaced". Nada. So I asked a couple of the clerks who congregated at the desk if they had any Gold discs. They mentioned that they thought they had an ELP, a Lynyrd Skynyrd and an EAGLES and pointed to the used section. Needless to say I went back and looked through their entire used section and scanned the wall - again nada.

I left very sad with a filthy left hand and and a very very sore right arm. :realmad:

He says "colitas" which is supposedly Spanish for "little buds".

Hey, how come Glenn Frey only sings lead on one track on that album? I thought he was like the McCartney of the Eagles?

It's the best Hotel California mastering out there. Lacking only in the lower octaves relative to the latest recordings. Of the Eagles, all the hoffman stuff is the best with the single exception of the XRCD of "hell freezes over" which obviously is a new recording.

Just dont go crazy over XRCD's. I own two and one is great, the one mentioned above. The other sounds rally bad (TREBLE and THIN) "Dire Straits- Brothers in arms" compared to the Warner remaster of the same album.

the answer you all have been waiting for.

the disc is sitting in the glass display case of collector's memorabilia at the Tower Records in Atlanta GA ('Buckhead'). Someone here besides me should go buy it.

I have heard / read all the stories of how tortorous this remastering was for Steve.

I do appreciate his effort taken on HC, and I love his work overall. I did not buy his Metallica disc either though, for the same reasons.

Glenn Frey, Don Henley, et al would have never been invited to join the Wilbury's. I'm perhaps strange or arbitrary in my listening habits, I admit. I have all the seventies work by the Burrito Bros., have become a fringe Grateful Dead fan in the last 2 years, but I am "Eagled out" you might say. It's not even the style that they play in, it's their attitude as musicians and as personalities, if this makes any sense.

I have a ton of DCC discs, if this makes me seem any less of a weirdo!
Ringo, Orbison, Queen, Wings, Bob Wills, Amboy Dukes, 'Pet Sounds'and others. I just had to draw the line somewhere.

    - - -

If you polish a stone, in the end all you really have is a stone, no matter how beautifully presented. That was my point all along. Mebbe some lp's just aren't worth remastering.

Surely one or two of you understand my frustration here.
I find a DCC gold disc relatively cheap, and it's something I'd never listen to in 50 years,
but is nevertheless as popular an album as "popular" gets.

Boy, this has been one loopy thread, what was it about again? The Eagles, God, Clapton, Springsteen, to DCC or not to DCC, that was the question. Well time to get something to eat, hope everyone who wants a DCC Hotel California gets one, and those that don't get what they want (or deserve). Onward to more interesting threads.:)

I've been away for the weekend and missed what ever happened. Mark, I guess we are the "crappees" in this caper. Did the poster go bannas or something? He didn't threaten to hold any of our beloved remasters hostage with the threat of no-noising them to death, did he? :)
