Why did Allan Clarke insist on frequently performing bare chested throughout the 70s?

But chest and body hair for men were.
Waxing was all but non-existent --except for professional bodybuilders. In the '70's guys would take their shirts off at the drop of a hat when it was hot--even if they had excessively hairy backs.
    You don't see that today.

The '70's were weird when it came to hair--perms, comb-overs, etc.

Hmmmmm. Thread makes me wonder: So exactly why did Wendy O wear black electric tape over her nipples? Now that's a thinker!

Shirts always have been, and always will be, just too darn expensive.

Good lord! The thing that makes this pic so perfect is the fact he's showing her a cook book. Brilliant.

Their version of Judee Sill's "Jesus Was a Crossmaker" is mind-blowingly fantastic. That one hit me hard a few years ago when I "discovered" Romany via a friend. Pretty killer album indeed.

I'm having a hard time understanding why I'm spending my 4th of July morning looking for photographs of a shirtless Allan Clarke. I found two pics, one he's not performing, the other has his shirt open.

I call BS on this thread. Allan Clarke *never* insisted on performing bare-chested throughout any era. He's just a regular guy who opens his shirt if he gets too hot on stage.

You know who's not a regular guy? The OP. He's obsessed with Allan Clarke's torso.

And, yeah, "American food." Like, fry bread?

True apparently. Suggests Graham and Allan aren't in direct contact these days...

It is a very strange thread, given the OP never posted a single pic as evidence..

Some chest action here and a truly great "unknown" single.

Always thought guys on stage with their top off was incredibly cheesy.

Phil Collen is notorious for this. In great shape for 60 years old......but
I'm sure the def leppard audience love it..... It's corny IMHO.

That pic, though real, looks like an old mans head photoshopped onto a young mans body.

The same thing crossed my mind too re: Graham and Allan. I had thought - through different interviews with Graham in recent years - that they were still in regular contact and quite close. This comment seems to suggest otherwise. Too bad.

While this is off-topic (can't believe I'm apologizing for this in this thread), I would love to know more about Allan's return to the studio, if anyone has any more info to share on this subject.

Rumor has it he's insisting on being bare-chested for the sessions.

Now he just has to convince a record company they won't lose their shirts...
