Over the years a lot of folks in my neck of the woods have considered the US version their favorite Beatles LP
(followed by Abbey Road and 1967-70).

In total agreement with your statement. Each one has its own uniqueness that makes it different from the others.

Every fan of The Beatles should have a “Wheel of Greatness” in their abode with all of their albums shown which could be spun on a regular basis.

Hmmm... time to get the IT team on on this one.

About a half of the album are songs that have become modern standards. (No, I am not going to list them, since I can imagine the following debate.) It may be a bigger share than on any other Beatles album.

So what's wrong? Maybe the other half is too weak. Or the maybe the production sounds lacking in comparision with the immediately following albums. Or is it just the bass? :)

It's solid big time. They have some others that top Rubber Soul.

Then again, I'm used to the US version. Have the UK, but it's not my go-to.

Oh, that old "No singles on the album" policy... I dearly love the Day Tripper + We Can Work It Out combo as it is, but always wanted them on the album.

Yes, it is usually not a dislike for the songs, but the harm done to the UK album (in the eyes/ears of those who dislike the US version) probably stressed further by the "cult" status of the US version among some US fans.

There's no "really" for whether one album is better than another. It's just a matter of what an individual likes of values more, for whatever reasons.

I like the White Album the most. Rubber Soul is a great album, but I'd rank it seventh or eighth, probably, depending on whether we include Hey Jude.

I like Rubber Soul a lot and I think it was a noticeable step forward for the Beatles. But one knock I have against it is that the songs are rigidly locked into that Sixties pop mode with every song lasting roughly 2 minutes and 30 seconds. It would take a few more years before they broke out of that mindset.

Rubber Soul has always been my favorite Beatles. And, the 87 is my favorite copy...........:hide:

My system is listed and has always sounded great to me. I know all the arguments against. I still love it though.

IMHO it's because Rubber Soul pretty much still has one foot in Beatlemania. Revolver is one HUGE step ahead. There are some great stuff on it but it's not as groundbreaking as Revolver. That's why I guess!

It’s the most consistent Beatle album by far in my opinion.

Rubber Soul is the sweet spot in the catalog. Maybe not the ‘best’ album they did depending on my mood, but it it their most appealing album overall for me.

I'm not saying they are all terrible, sub par Beatles still beats most other music. It was a tough assignment. I'm just glad I wasn't going with UK format that would have required 3 more tracks. If so I probably would have had to add in Maggie Mae, Dizzy Miss L and KCity.

Esencially this. What Goes On and Run for your Life are weak songs, there's no way around it. And one of them ends the album!

Maybe it is because of the binaural mix that was made even worse in 1987 with added reverb to mask this horrible mix.

Of course - they are The Beatles
Not possible to do 11 tunes that are bad - this was just the closest I could come without reaching into Anthology

I'd say US Rubber Soul is my 2nd fav Beatles LP after Yesterday & Today

UK Rubber Soul is my 2nd fav after UK Revolver.

UK RS is more consistent quality than Revolver (which had 2 tracks that made my "worst of" list), but Revolver has my favorite composition (For No One) and my favorite track (And Your Bird Can Sing).
