In case that tweet goes away at some point:
Good news for Local Hero fans - 4DVD are prepping a new blu-ray edition, due for release early next year. Here's a peek behind the scenes of the commentary track recording session with @KermodeMovie & Mr Bill Forsyth! (posted 14 Sept 2018)

Been wondering why this and CAL aren't available on blu-ray. Hope it comes to the US too. Hurrah!

Have heard through industry connections that Warner Bros. owns Local Hero in the US; hopefully they'll release this new version here too.

The original vinyl and CD are well regarded by audiophiles. Except for better, more careful plating and pressing on the vinyl version, I really can't think of anything else which could improve the US Warner Brothers originals in any way. They're more than audiophile enough as they are. A nice vinyl release with the same style mastering would be nice, and be welcomed to many here.

I was disappointed that the soundtrack didn’t include “Victor’s Song”.

To update my previous post - Criterion has released Local Hero on blu-ray in the US. Watch your Barnes & Noble for a sale - they typically do 50% off Criterion sales multiple times a year.

They already sound pretty great in their original forms.

And Comfort And Joy was released as a 12" 45rpm.

The original does sound wonderful, but so did the Dire Straits catalog yet we got 180g pressings from Warner and 45 RPM and SACD releases from MoFi of all those titles, along with audiophile releases of some of Mark Knopfler’s newer albums, just never the Local Hero soundtrack.

True, but MoFi has also announced they will be releasing it on LP and SACD later this year.

Yes, the Abbey Road half speed is what was posted to be up for presale now on Amazon. (Anyone have a link? I can't find it in a search, at least not of the US site.)

The MoFi release hasn't officially gone up for presale yet, which probably means it will be late 2021.

The fact that the MoFi will also be available on SACD is great news for digital/DSD fans.

One wonders about the release of yet another LP version of Brothers in Arms though; the 45 RPM MoFi and MoFi SACD are pretty definitive.

Who am I kidding though - I will probably get both LP reissues of the soundtrack and the SACD.

It will certainly be interesting to compare the Abbey Road remaster to the forthcoming MoFi releases.

    Original UK pressings ARE audiophile.
No need to resell the same thing again unless Knopfler is hard up.

Since this thread was from almost 4 years ago, and they're delivering exactly what you asked for, another 6 months or so won't kill you.

    It does.
However, some people want a 180g "audiophile" pressing with multi media,a booklet and a price tag of £100.

Good luck finding a sealed copy; I have no doubt the original US LP release could be improved upon.

The same may well be true of the Vertigo CD, given that was the infancy of mastering for CD.

The real question is will the Abbey Road 45 RPM Brothers in Arms improve upon the 45 RPM MoFi release of a few years ago?

Why does it need to be sealed?

Because I have been bitten too many times by what various sellers consider to be VG or M used records; I don't think I will ever purchase from a Discogs seller again at this point.

Not that sealed is any guarantee of quality, but it helps.

Really, so anyone could go into a record shop, scratch up all the copies and put them back in the bins?

    Eeek.
